Job summary

IRON YELLOW LLC is seeking a Director of IT to own and execute technology strategy across our fleet operations. You will lead day-to-day IT across all branches, manage budgets, and partner with Operations, Sales, and Finance to improve utilization and the customer experience.

You will own the rental management platform, integrate with ERP/CRM systems, and oversee telematics, data reporting, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• 10+ years in IT with 5+ years leading teams and budgets across multiple sites.
• Strong networking, cloud, and cybersecurity foundational knowledge.
• Clear communicator who can explain technology to both branches and executives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a 3-year IT roadmap aligned with fleet growth and margins.
• Own rental management platform and integrations with ERP/CRM/e-commerce systems.
• Lead cybersecurity program, backups, incident response, and disaster recovery planning.
• Ensure branch networks, WAN, Wi-Fi, and devices have 99.9% uptime and secure access.
• Drive digital customer experiences: online ordering, portals, e-signature, and mobile apps.
• Oversee IT due diligence for acquisitions and rapid integration of new branches.
• Coordinate with Operations and Accounting to streamline data flow and eliminate manual handoffs.

Position summary

The Director of IT owns the technology that keeps our fleet earning: rental management, telematics, branch networks, and the systems our customers use to order and track equipment. This leader sets IT strategy, runs day-to-day operations across all branches and yards, and partners with Operations, Sales, and Finance to improve fleet utilization and the customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Strategy and leadership: Build and run a 3-year IT roadmap and annual budget tied to fleet growth, branch expansion, and margin goals. Hire, develop, and lead the IT team and manage key vendors and MSPs.
• Rental and ERP systems: Own the rental management platform (Point of Rental) and its integrations with accounting, CRM, e-commerce, and service/maintenance systems.
• Fleet telematics and data: Integrate telematics and GPS data to support utilization tracking, preventive maintenance, and billing accuracy. Deliver reporting that leadership trusts.
• Infrastructure and field connectivity: Keep branches, yards, and service trucks connected through reliable WAN, Wi-Fi, mobile devices, and rugged tablets. Maintain 99.9% uptime for core systems.
• Cybersecurity and risk: Run the security program, including MFA, endpoint protection, backups, incident response, and staff training. Lead disaster recovery planning and cyber insurance requirements.
• Digital customer experience: Partner with Sales on online ordering, customer portals, e-signature contracts, and mobile delivery/pickup apps.
• Growth and acquisitions: Lead IT due diligence and integrate acquired branches onto company systems quickly.
• Operations and Accounting integration: Partner with Operations and Accounting leaders to map how rental contracts, dispatch, service, invoicing, and month-end close move through our systems. Remove manual re-entry and broken handoffs between the rental platform, accounting system, and field tools. Set data standards and integration checks so contracts, equipment status, and billing match across systems. Train branch and back-office staff on the workflows that result.

How success is measured

In the first year, success means core system uptime at 99.9% or better, a security program that passes our cyber insurance and audit reviews, telematics-driven utilization reporting in place across the fleet, and new branches fully on company systems within 60 days of opening or acquisition.

Requirements

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years in IT, including 5+ years leading teams and budgets in a multi-site business
• Strong grounding in networking, cloud (Microsoft 365, Azure or AWS), and cybersecurity practices
• Clear communicator who can explain technology choices to branch managers and executives alike

Preferred

• Experience in equipment rental, construction, heavy equipment dealerships, or logistics
• Hands-on experience running an ERP or rental management system and its integrations
• Familiarity with telematics platforms and OEM data feeds
• Background integrating acquisitions or supporting a PE-backed growth company
• Certifications such as CISSP, PMP, or ITIL
