Dept.: IS/IT Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to: President & CEO Class: Indirect
The following are tasks to be performed by the Director of IS/IT. The duties are not limited to this list. Any additional requirements, changes, or deletions will be at the discretion of the President and CEO. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and duty satisfactorily.

SUMMARY: The Director of IS/IT leads Altek’s technology strategy, business systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technical support. This position translates business priorities into practical technology plans that improve manufacturing performance, protect company and customer information, strengthen decision-making, and support reliable daily operations. The Director is accountable for developing the IS/IT team, establishing policies and standards, managing technology investments, and delivering projects with clear business outcomes. Working with department leaders, the Director standardizes processes and systems, stabilizes performance, and builds capabilities that support sustainable growth. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement appropriate to the needs of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a multiyear technology roadmap aligned with company strategy, operating priorities, and available resources. Translate the roadmap into annual objectives, budgets, and an achievable project portfolio.
  • Establish and maintain IS/IT policies, procedures, technical standards, and ownership for system access, acceptable use, change management, asset management, data retention, and technology purchasing.
  • Evaluate requests with business leaders, define the problem and expected benefit, and prioritize work based on operational impact, risk, cost, and capacity. Escalate conflicting priorities to the President and CEO.
  • Provide management with clear reporting on service performance, project progress, technology risks, spending, and decisions requiring leadership action.
  • Lead, coach, and develop IS/IT personnel; establish responsibilities, performance expectations, training plans, and cross‑training to reduce dependence on individual employees.
  • Oversee help desk operations, incident prioritization, escalation, and communication. Set service expectations that reflect the importance of production and other business‑critical activities.
  • Build effective relationships with department leaders and users. Provide practical training, maintain support documentation, and resolve recurring issues through root‑cause analysis.
  • Coordinate internal staff and outside service providers, maintaining clear accountability for work quality, timely resolution, and coverage during planned or unplanned absences.
  • Own the technical strategy, administration, support, and lifecycle planning for the ERP platform and connected business applications. Promote consistent system use across departments.
  • Lead system evaluations with Operations, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and other process owners. Document requirements, assess functional fit, identify gaps, and compare total cost and implementation risk.
  • Lead the technology workstream for ERP implementations, upgrades, and integrations, including configuration, data conversion, testing, cutover, training coordination, and post‑launch support.
  • Partner with business owners to standardize workflows before automating them. Ensure process owners approve requirements, validate data, and accept changes affecting their operations.
  • Reduce duplicate entry, disconnected spreadsheets, and overlapping applications through practical integration and system consolidation. Maintain interfaces, documentation, and support arrangements.
  • Oversee networks, servers, cloud services, databases, endpoints, telecommunications, collaboration tools, intranet, and the technical administration of company web services.
  • Maintain an accurate technology inventory and lifecycle plan covering refresh cycles, licensing, support status, capacity, patching, and replacement of obsolete equipment and software.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, and equipment suppliers on connectivity and security for production equipment. Plan changes and maintenance to minimize production disruption.
  • Maintain system configurations, network diagrams, administrative procedures, and recovery documentation. Require testing, approvals, and rollback plans for significant changes.
  • Establish and maintain security controls for identity and access, endpoint protection, network security, vulnerability management, monitoring, and secure remote access.
  • Apply access controls based on job responsibilities; coordinate timely onboarding, role changes, and offboarding with HR and managers. Review privileged and third‑party access periodically.
  • Lead cybersecurity awareness and incident response readiness. Coordinate containment, recovery, root‑cause review, and escalation of incidents to authorized company leadership.
  • Maintain and test backups and disaster recovery procedures. Agree on recovery priorities and acceptable downtime and data loss with business owners; document restoration test results and corrective actions.
  • Lead and advance Altek’s ongoing NIST SP 800-171 and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) readiness efforts. Coordinate internal teams and external specialists to assess gaps, implement and maintain security controls, update policies and supporting documentation, track corrective actions, and prepare for assessments. Report progress, risks, and resource needs to the President and CEO.
  • Partner with Quality, HR, and other responsible functions to address applicable customer, contractual, and regulatory information‑security requirements. Maintain evidence for reviews and audits and track remediation.
  • Partner with business owners to establish data ownership, definitions, access, and quality controls. Develop reliable reporting and dashboards that support operational and financial decisions.
  • Evaluate automation and AI opportunities against business needs, information security, cost, and measurable benefit. Establish approved tools and use practices, including human review and protection of confidential information.
  • Use controlled pilots, documented results, and user feedback to determine whether new technologies are ready for broader adoption.
  • Develop and manage IS/IT operating and capital budgets. Track actual spending, explain variances, forecast needs, and identify opportunities to reduce total cost without compromising reliability or security.
  • Evaluate and manage vendors, consultants, licensing, renewals, and service agreements. Recommend commercial terms and purchases within company approval requirements and monitor provider performance.
  • Use defined project scopes, owners, milestones, resource plans, risk logs, and acceptance criteria. Communicate delays and changes early; verify adoption and realized benefits after implementation.
  • Establish baselines and annual performance targets with the President and CEO. Monitor critical system availability, service response and resolution, project milestones and benefits, budget performance, data quality, and team development.
  • Measure security performance through timely access reviews, patch and vulnerability remediation, awareness training, and closure of audit findings. Track progress against approved NIST/CMMC milestones, implementation and maintenance of required controls, and readiness of supporting documentation and assessment evidence.
  • Direct day-to-day IS/IT work and recommend investments, system selections, staffing, and policy changes within company approval requirements. Partner with department leaders, who retain ownership of their business processes, data accuracy, and operating results.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, confidentiality, dependability, and accountability. Communicate clearly with employees, customers, suppliers, and leadership.
  • Support Altek’s Quality Policy, vision, core values, and expected behaviors. Follow safety requirements in office and manufacturing areas.
  • Maintain technical and leadership knowledge through continuing education and professional development. Perform other related responsibilities assigned by the President and CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least seven years of progressively responsible IS/IT experience, including three years leading people, major technology programs, or an IS/IT function.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing ERP systems and leading significant systems improvements, integrations, upgrades, or implementations.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing workflows, including production planning, inventory, purchasing, quality, traceability, and their relationship to costing and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, networks, databases, identity management, cybersecurity, backup and recovery, and end‑user support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendors, competing priorities, and cross‑functional projects; translate technical issues into clear business choices; and develop staff and user capabilities.
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with Infor XA, IBM i/AS400, manufacturing ERP modernization, SQL, reporting tools, scripting, application integration, and cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with injection molding, precision machining, electronics, and engineering processes; APICS/ASCM training or relevant IT service, security, or project management credentials.
