Job description

Our client, a large, successful family office in the Southeast Phoenix area, is seeking someone to lead investor relations. Our client owns a mix of regional operating and holding companies.

This family office is primarily owner-capital, specializing in the ground-up development, acquisition, and long-term ownership of commercial and residential real estate, alongside a diverse portfolio of operating companies with nearly 2000 employees across all companies.

We're looking for an experienced, highly analytical, sophisticated Director of Investor Relations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will act as the primary, high-touch liaison between the executive management teams of our operating/development companies and the family principals/owners.

In this unique single-family office structure, "investor relations" does not focus on raising external capital. Instead, you will work hand-in-hand with the CFO and finance team to bridge the gap between complex asset-level operations and strategic family-level financial oversight. You will ensure the family has total financial transparency, institutional-grade reporting, and clear insights into the performance, capitalization, and strategic direction of all owned entities.

Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Stakeholder Communications & Reporting
  • Serve as the central point of contact for the family principals, family council, and board members regarding the financial and operational health of the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to translate complex real estate development metrics, construction timelines, and operating company financial statements into clear, executive-level summaries.
  • Structure and co-lead monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio review meetings for the family.
  • Design, build, and maintain institutional-quality investor reporting templates, dashboards, and annual reports.
  • Establish strong working relationships with the CEOs, CFOs, and project leaders of the various underlying operating companies and real estate development teams.
  • Proactively track project milestones (e.g., zoning, construction progress, leasing velocity) and operating company KPIs.
  • Conduct independent evaluations of performance against original underwriting or business plans, highlighting variances, risks, and opportunities to the CFO and family leadership.
3. Financial Analysis & Cash Flow Support
  • Partner closely with the CFO and core finance team to analyze cash flow distributions, capital call requirements, and liquidity planning across the portfolio.
  • Synthesize macro-economic trends, real estate market data, and industry benchmarks to provide financial context for portfolio performance.
  • Assist the CFO in evaluating new investment opportunities, capital allocation strategies, or debt restructuring scenarios being presented to the family.
4. Wealth Stewardship & Governance
  • Maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding the family’s net worth, financial holdings, and personal governance matters.
  • Support the CFO in educating and onboarding next-generation family members regarding the financial mechanics and performance of the family assets.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field. An MBA, CFA, CPA, or CAIA is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in Investor Relations, Corporate Finance, Corporate Communications, Real Estate Private Equity, or working within a sophisticated Single-Family Office.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with real estate investment mechanics (JV structures, waterfalls, development cycles) and corporate finance/operating company metrics (EBITDA, working capital, debt covenants).
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, and visual storytelling skills. Ability to explain highly technical financial and construction data to non-technical family stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with family office accounting software (e.g., Addepar, SEI, Arch) or real estate tech platforms is a plus.
  • Attributes: High emotional intelligence (EQ), impeccable ethics, attention to detail, and a service-oriented mindset suited for a private family environment.
