To support continued growth, they're hiring a Project Director to lead a portfolio of major projects and play a key role in winning new work.

The Role

This is a senior leadership role with two equal priorities. You'll oversee successful delivery across multiple projects, and you'll drive business development by building agency and client relationships and leading pursuits. You'll report to senior leadership and help shape the company's regional growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and project delivery

  • Hold overall responsibility for a portfolio of infrastructure projects, including safety, quality, schedule, cost and client satisfaction
  • Own project P&L, forecasting, risk management and financial performance
  • Lead, mentor and develop Project Managers, Project Engineers and Superintendents
  • Oversee contract administration, change management, claims avoidance and dispute resolution
  • Make sure projects meet agency requirements, including prevailing wage, DBE/SBE and environmental compliance
  • Represent the company at senior level with owners, agencies, designers and partners
  • Build a strong safety culture across all projects
  • Find, qualify and pursue new opportunities with public agencies and private clients
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with owners, agencies, engineers and teaming partners
  • Lead pursuits from go/no-go through proposal, interview and award
  • Help shape strategy and win themes for hard-bid, design-build, CM/GC and progressive design-build work
  • Work with estimating on pricing strategy, risk review and bid approval
  • Form joint ventures and teaming arrangements on large or complex pursuits
  • Represent the company at industry events and associations (for example AGC, ASCE and DBIA)
Requirements
  • 15+ years of experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction, including significant time in senior project leadership (Senior PM, Project Director or Operations Manager)
  • Proven success delivering large, complex public works projects
  • Demonstrated business development results, including pursuits won and client relationships built
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing multi-project P&L
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods (design-build, CM/GC, progressive DB)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation and presentation skills
Preferred (not essential)
  • Established relationships with Bay Area agencies such as Caltrans, BART, SFPUC, SFMTA, Valley Water, EBMUD or VTA
  • Experience on transit, bridges, water and wastewater treatment, or major pipeline programs
  • Joint venture experience on projects valued at $100M+
  • PE license, DBIA certification or PMP

  • Highly competitive base salary plus performance and BD-linked bonus
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Vehicle or car allowance, phone and laptop
  • A senior role with real influence over the company's growth and strategy
  • A strong backlog and pipeline of long-term infrastructure work
