SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

The Director of Individualized Education provides leadership, vision, and direction for the district’s special education, multilingual learner, and gifted education programs, ensuring equitable access to high-quality, tailored education for all students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Vision:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted education programs.
  • Set and communicate a clear vision to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities, multilingual learners, and gifted students.
  • Support the implementation of MTSS across the district.

Program Management:

  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of programs for SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted education.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate assessments and evaluations for student placement and progress monitoring.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Partner with school administrators, teachers, families, and community organizations to support student success.
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and resources to staff.
  • Facilitate stakeholder communication and collaboration to meet student and program goals.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and report on student performance and program effectiveness.
  • Use data to inform decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Present reports to the school board, district leadership, and stakeholders.

Resource Management:

  • Manage budgets and resources aligned with program goals.
  • Secure funding through grants and partnerships.
  • Supervise and evaluate key staff members.

Advocacy and Policy Development:

  • Advocate for SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted students at all levels.
  • Develop and update policies to ensure equitable education access.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of IDEA, ECEA, and OCR policies.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Leadership skills in improvement processes within MTSS.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Valid Special Education Director license or enrollment in a licensure program.
  • Extensive experience in special, multilingual, or gifted education preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Chief of Student Experience and Success.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time, with extended hours as needed.
  • Requires flexibility and adaptability.
  • Primarily office-based, with visits to schools and community sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light activity. It may involve walking, standing, lifting up to 20 pounds, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, grasping, and using fingers for typing.
