Job description

Job Overview:

The Director of Individual Giving (DIG) will drive and oversee all aspects of individual philanthropy at Children s Specialized Hospital Foundation. Reporting to the President and Chief Development Officer, the DIG will manage a portfolio of major donors, personally soliciting gifts of $25,000 and above, while leading efforts across major gifts, planned giving, foundation relations, direct mail, and digital campaigns. The DIG will also build and guide a newly forming team, including a Development Coordinator and Major Gifts Officer, to grow individual giving and meet a $3M department goal, contributing to CSHF s larger $10M annual target. This position is based in Mountainside, NJ, with flexibility for one remote workday per week and occasional travel to other CSH locations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with an emphasis on individual donors, major gifts, planned giving, and donor relations.
  • Demonstrated success closing major gifts of $25,000+ in a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Experience developing direct mail and digital fundraising campaign strategy, and analyzing and interpreting the results.
  • Familiarity and end-user competency with Raiser s Edge, MS Office Suite, and other fundraising tools and technology
  • Strong leadership and team management skills; the ability to get along with people of different backgrounds.
  • Creativity and a gift for storytelling.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects effectively while focusing on the big picture and maintaining attention to detail.
  • A passion for analyzing data to assess and improve results.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • A positive attitude, great sense of humor, and a strong work ethic.
  • A desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

  • Demonstrated success in securing six figure+ gifts is strongly preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Major Gift Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors at all giving levels, while personally focusing on gifts of $25,000 and above. Collaborate with staff managing portfolios ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 to ensure seamless integration and stewardship across the program.
  • Planned Giving: Lead the expansion of the planned giving program by engaging current and prospective legacy donors.
  • Donor Stewardship and Cultivation: Oversee all cultivation, engagement, and stewardship strategies for individual donors, ensuring they experience personalized stewardship and continued engagement with the hospital's mission.
  • Foundation Relations: Manage relationships with family foundations in collaboration with other development team members, ensuring targeted proposals, stewardship, and reporting.
  • Direct Mail and Digital Campaigns: Provide strategic direction and oversight for individual donor direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications to align messaging and branding, and supervise the Development Coordinator s implementation and execution of these campaigns, ensuring they are effectively targeted and optimized for maximum engagement and fundraising success.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to the Development Coordinator, who will manage the mid-level donor pipeline ($1K-$10K), and collaborate closely with the Major Gifts Officer responsible for securing gifts of $10K+.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Development Operations, Marketing & Communications, and Institutional Giving to align individual giving efforts with broader organizational goals.
  • Data Analytics and Reporting: Use data and analytics to track progress, assess donor behaviors, and adjust strategies to maximize individual donor revenue and engagement.
  • Special Events: Represent CSHF at donor cultivation events, hospital tours, and other activities that promote donor engagement. Some evenings and weekends required along with statewide travel.
