Job summary

Adapture Renewables, Inc. is seeking a Director of Optimization Engineering to lead the technical strategy for optimizing our hybrid solar and battery energy storage systems. The role drives energy production, storage efficiency, and load-matching across a multi-GW pipeline, partnering with Development, Interconnection, Asset Management, and Power Marketing.

The successful candidate will define success criteria, grow a team of engineers, and report to the Sr. Director of Engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, energy, or systems engineering, or an equivalent quantitative discipline; advanced degree a plus.
• 8+ years in renewable energy with hands-on experience designing and optimizing utility-scale solar and BESS.
• 3+ years leading and developing technical teams; proven vision and delivery.
• Deep fluency in PV performance modeling (PVSyst or equivalent), including P50/P90 yield estimation.
• Strong PV and BESS electrical engineering foundations: inverters, EMS, SOC limits, round-trip efficiency.
• Experience with dispatch/arbitrage optimization and data analytics for battery control.
• Preferred: Python (SciPy), MATLAB, SQL; SCADA/EMS OT data; familiarity with interconnection and market context; PE license a plus.
• Travel to project sites and Bay Area office as needed.

Responsibilities

• Own the optimization engineering roadmap for hybrid solar-plus-storage, defining KPIs linking design to energy yield and ROI.
• Govern PV performance modeling standards (PVSyst), P50/P90, losses and availability.
• Model and optimize PV+BESS output for large-load customers, front-of-meter and behind-the-meter.
• Set the basis for battery dispatch and energy-arbitrage strategies with linear programming.
• Establish standards for EMS configuration, sizing, DC/AC ratios, and state-of-charge limits.
• Ensure designs meet interconnection requirements and SCADA/EMS protocols with IT partners.
• Lead and develop the optimization engineering team, including the Manager.
• Deliver design and performance recommendations to Engineering leadership and owners.
