Director of High Voltage – Substation & Transmission

We're hiring a Director of High Voltage Engineering to lead the growth and delivery of substation and transmission design projects across North America. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced leader to step into a strategic role that blends engineering, project execution, team-building, and business development — all within the fast-moving renewable and utility energy space.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, manage, and grow a high-performing high voltage (HV) engineering team focused on transmission line and substation design.
  • Lead engineering operations including design delivery, quality assurance, and proposal development.
  • Oversee team budget, profitability, and project timelines across multiple HV initiatives.
  • Serve as technical authority across complex T&D projects in the utility and renewable sectors.
  • Collaborate with internal leadership to align project goals with long-term strategy and client needs.
  • Guide the development of engineering proposals, technical specifications, and project plans.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, engineering codes (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI), and QA/QC procedures.
  • Travel up to 10% as required for client engagement or team oversight.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in high voltage substation or transmission line engineering within consulting or design environments.
  • 5+ years managing engineering teams and leading project execution.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • In-depth knowledge of utility-scale HV systems, including design theory, permitting, and construction considerations.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Skilled in project budgeting, resource planning, and business development.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
