The Special Treatment and Research (STAR) Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Director of Human Services / Development Director. The successful candidate will:

  • Work with faculty, senior staff and line staff to identify growth opportunities that align with STAR Program’s mission.
  • Provide leadership to the development of new and continuing grant applications. Hold meetings and work with faculty and team members to develop grant writing assignments. Develop all supplementary material in format for submission.
  • Develop budgets and budget justifications to reflect the needs of the program. Ensure compliance with institutional fiscal policies in the development of budgets.
  • Serve as STAR Program representative for community relations activities. Work with other senior staff on the promotion of programs and services to special populations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the STAR social media consultant. Develop a system to ensure that a schedule is developed and maintained for all marketing and media activities.
  • Develop and distribute the STAR Community Link and other program-related information and publications utilizing electronic media.
  • Provide leadership to special projects of the STAR Program that involve development and writing, analytic and budgeting expertise.
  • Participate in programmatic and institutional development through participation in meetings and committees.
  • Coordinate special projects as needed. Facilitate administrative activities and events.
  • Serve as an integral member of the STAR Program administration and senior leadership, providing supervision and guidance to staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in an academic or public health institution.
  • Knowledge of health care policy as well as fundraising and grant writing for service and research-related programs.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional writing, budgeting, analytical and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of health care finance and revenue systems strongly preferred.
  • Must have advanced computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat; experience with Access and/or SPSS preferred.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 9:00AM to 5:00PM (Full-Time)

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
