Job summary

Winthrop University seeks an Executive Director for the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research Development to lead grants and contracts administration, pre-award and compliance teams, and proposal development. The role oversees and optimizes processes, provides grant support to faculty and staff, and guides research development across campus.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in business, public administration, research discipline, social science or other appropriate field.
• At least five years of progressively responsible experience in research administration at a higher education institution.
• Working knowledge of non-financial compliance management (IRB, IACUC, IBC).
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations and grants/contracts management guidelines (OMB Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200).
• Experience with Grants.gov, NSF FastLane/Research.gov, eRA Commons and other online grant submission portals.
• Excellent written communication and editing/proofreading skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and sponsor representatives.
• Strong financial, audit and computer skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develops proposal budgets and budget justifications.
• Reviews grant applications for compliance with policies, state/federal regulations, and sponsor guidelines.
• Oversees grant application processing, approvals, records, and tracking in university systems.
• Acts as Authorized Organizational Representative for federal grant submissions.
• Liaises with funding agencies to resolve questions during pre-award processes.
• Reviews and coordinates award modifications and subawards.
• Prepares and approves all subawards with partners and sponsors.
• Leads Grants Office staff and operations, ensuring high service levels.
