Job summary

Cornell Tech in New York City seeks a Director of Government & Community Relations to build and manage relationships with local, state, and federal government officials and community leaders in service of campus priorities.

Under the Vice President of University Relations, the director collaborates with NYC agencies and Weill Cornell Medicine, represents Cornell Tech publicly, plans events, and ensures alignment across departments on government partnerships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5+ years of relevant work experience in government or community relations.
• Demonstrated success in community development and government relations in New York City.
• Strong organizational, project management, tracking, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster inclusive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Cornell Tech contact for island and local residents, businesses, community groups, and elected officials.
• Monitor and advise on economic development issues affecting Cornell Tech.
• Represent Cornell Tech at Community Board meetings and external committees.
• Plan and coordinate programming and events for community and government constituencies.
• Bridge university resources to non-profit stakeholders and connect researchers with collaborators.
• Prepare for Community & Construction Task Force meetings and ensure cross‑department coordination.
• Track commitments to the community and NYC EDC; assist with annual reports.
• Maintain regular contact with development partners and elected officials; respond to inquiries.
• Coordinate tours/visits from government or institutional partners when applicable.
