Job summary

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is assisting a well-established local government organization in Upstate South Carolina to recruit a Director of Finance on a contract-to-hire basis. The role offers leadership over municipal financial operations and serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and elected officials.

The position requires overseeing budgeting, GAAP/GASB reporting, and audits while managing staff and cross-functional collaboration with city leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business, or related field.
• 5+ years in accounting, finance, budgeting, audit, or governmental finance.
• Municipal or government accounting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, budgeting, audit processes, internal controls.
• CPA designation preferred.
• Experience with Harris SmartFusion or similar ERP systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a well-established local government organization in Upstate South Carolina to identify a Director of Finance for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This position offers the opportunity to lead financial operations for a growing municipality while serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and elected officials.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting and financial operations


• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning


• Prepare financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards


• Manage general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and utility billing functions


• Coordinate annual audits and financial compliance activities

Compensation & Work Environment

• $40-$45/hour
