Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking a Director of Ethics and Compliance to provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the company's ethics program. This role will guide corporate investigations, compliance, anti-bribery, and FERC/state compliance across the organization.

Located in Akron, OH, with travel as needed, the position requires executive presence and collaboration with Legal, HR, Audit, Public Affairs, and Regulatory teams to promote ethical business conduct and strong controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, law, accounting, finance, public policy, regulatory affairs, or a related field.
• Juris Doctor degree preferred.
• Minimum ten years of progressively responsible experience in ethics and compliance or related functions.
• Three to five years of leadership experience managing teams, programs, or cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for Ethics & Compliance initiatives and program governance.
• Oversee intake, triage, investigation, documentation, reporting, and remediation of ethics concerns.
• Lead sensitive, high-risk investigations with confidentiality and coordination with Legal, HR, Audit, and Security.
• Identify investigation trends, root causes, and remediation opportunities for management.
• Oversee gifts, conflicts of interest, policy acknowledgments, and related compliance controls.
• Provide guidance on ethics policies and escalation when needed.
• Oversee anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and political compliance controls.
• Coordinate with business units on FERC and state regulatory compliance.
• Monitor compliance data and reports to identify potential misconduct or control weaknesses.
• Support reviews, audits, and assessments of business practices and compliance activities.
• Oversee training, communications, and awareness campaigns.
