Job summary

BETHANY HEALTH & REHABILITATION CENTER in Canton, OH is seeking a Director of Environmental Services to lead housekeeping and laundry operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

You will recruit, train, and supervise EVS staff, develop cleaning programs, and manage budgets while maintaining compliance with OSHA, CDC, and long-term care standards. This role requires leadership and a focus on infection control.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; degrees preferred.
  • 2–3 years in Environmental Services or related management.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of infection control, OSHA standards, and long-term care regulations.
  • Experience with cleaning equipment, floor care, and laundry operations.
  • Organizational, interpersonal and budgeting/inventory skills.
  • Proficient with basic computer apps including email, scheduling and inventory systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct the overall operations of the Environmental Services department, including housekeeping and laundry services.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate Environmental Services staff to ensure consistent performance and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules, policies, and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of resident rooms, common areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and infection control standards are met.
  • Manage department budget, including labor, supplies, equipment, and chemical inventories.
  • Order and maintain adequate stock of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment while controlling costs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, state health department, and facility infection control guidelines.
  • Partner with Administration, Nursing, and Maintenance leadership to address facility needs promptly.
  • Oversee safe handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment per SDS and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Lead departmental staff meetings, in-services, and ongoing training programs.
  • Participate in QAPI, survey readiness, and other facility-wide quality improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to and resolve resident, family, and staff concerns regarding environmental services.

What You'll Do

What You Need

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of infection control practices, OSHA standards, and state/federal regulations governing long-term care facilities.
  • Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment, floor care, and laundry operations.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, inventories, and staffing schedules effectively.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including email, scheduling, and inventory systems.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and respond to facility needs as required.
