Job summary

Empire State Development seeks an experienced Environmental Planner to manage and review environmental assessments, impact statements, and related studies for a broad portfolio of real estate and funding projects in New York.

You will lead environmental review processes under CEQR/SEQR/NEPA, coordinate with consultants and agencies, and ensure compliance across complex initiatives with a focus on planning and community engagement.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in urban planning, environmental science, or equivalent.
Minimum 7 years of experience in planning and environmental analysis with strong background in conducting environmental review under CEQR, SEQR and NEPA.
Background in urban and regional planning with strong knowledge and experience in performing environmental reviews under CEQR, SEQR and/or NEPA while working with public agencies and other stakeholders. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and project planning tools.

Responsibilities

Manage and assist in conducting environmental review processes and reviewing related documentation for ESD’s real estate and funding projects in compliance with CEQR, SEQR, NEPA.
Prepare environmental documentation for compliance with SEQR, SHPA and/or other laws as necessary.
Oversee consultants’ preparation of environmental review documents and coordinate with project teams.
Manage agency coordination by consulting with involved agencies on environmental review and regulatory requirements.
Manage consultant procurements, contracts and invoices; monitor compliance with environmental measures.
Support planning and environmental review needs including master planning, community engagement, feasibility studies, and related activities.
