Job summary

MacLean Power Systems seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the onsite engineering department in Bessemer, Alabama. You will supervise a multidisciplinary team and an offshore engineering group, driving design and manufacturing excellence in accordance with IEEE specs and customer requirements.

You’ll collaborate with Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Engineering to improve processes, BOM accuracy, and product documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
• 5+ years of relevant business and 3+ years supervisory experience required.
• Familiarity with IEEE specifications and test methods.
• Experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards / INFOR SyteLine) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise onsite engineering department and a 3rd party engineering team in India.
• Communicate with other departments and vendors on technical matters.
• Provide support for Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Design products based on IEEE specifications, customer specs, and acceptable manufacturing processes.
• Provide supervision and development of Engineering personnel.
• Assist in business planning.
• Review or develop BOMs to meet customer product requirements.
• Train RSMC personnel and sales agents regarding product design.
• Maintain relationships with peers in all departments.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Director of Engineering who is responsible for driving operational performance through planning, organizing and directing of the Engineering departments. The successful candidate will be a results-oriented team player with strong analytical skills, a process improvement mindset, detail orientation, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Location: Onsite - Bessemer, Alabama

What You’ll Do

• Supervise and direct the actions of an onsite engineering department as well as a 3rd party engineering team in India.
• Communicates with other departments and vendors on technical matters as required.
• Providing support for Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Designing products based upon the interpretation of IEEE specifications, customer specifications, and acceptable manufacturing processes.
• Providing supervision/development of Engineering personnel
• Assisting in business planning.
• Reviewing or developing BOMs to meet customer product requirements.
• Training RSMC personnel and sales agents regarding product design.
• Maintaining good working relationships with peers in all departments.
• Specifying and documenting the requirements for materials, processes, and products including all Engineering documentation (drawings, certified test reports, computer work documentation, etc.)
• Properly using, caring for, and maintaining acquisition of tools, instruments, factory equipment, test equipment, and office equipment required to perform job tasks.
• Maintaining extensive internal contact with all departments, contact with agents, customers, vendors, and IEEE committees as directed including technical presentations.
• Performing all other assigned duties.

What You’ll Need To Excel In This Role

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited school required.
• 5+ years of relevant business and 3+ years supervisory experience required.
• Self-motivation with a positive, adaptive, and success-seeking mentality.
• Working knowledge of Engineering principles, IEEE specifications and test methods.
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Computer hardware and software experience in CAD and CNC programming.
• Professional Engineering certification is desirable but not required.
• MBA is desirable but not required.
• Timely and well-organized communicator.
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
• Experience with ERP systems, INFOR SyteLine is a plus.
• Power and/or electrical system knowledge.

• WMS experience and knowledge preferred
• ERP system knowledge (JD Edwards preferred)
