Job description

  • Business Title: Director of Engineering – ReConnect
  • Department: Technology
  • Reports To: VP, Engineering – Connect
  • Location: Permanently Remote, with occasional travel required as needed. Eastern or Central U.S. time zones preferred (for alignment with India based developers and broader global teams). Must be available for daily standups at 9:00am ET.

Company Overview:

At Lineage, we’re transforming temperature-controlled logistics to eliminate waste, improve sustainability, and ensure food reaches the people who need it most. Recognized by Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies and featured on CNBC’s Disruptor 50, we’re at the forefront of innovation in the global food supply chain.

Technology is core to how we operate—and to how we differentiate. Rather than scaling a massive engineering organization, we’ve built a highly skilled, focused team that brings together the right blend of talent, curiosity, and technical depth. We combine open-source technologies, cloud services, proprietary tools, and strategic partnerships to move fast and build impactful solutions.

Our systems power mission-critical workflows across Lineage’s global network. From warehouse operations to algorithmic optimization, we’re building modern, scalable platforms that support our people, serve our customers, and enable growth. At the heart of that work is our purpose: to transform the food supply chain and help feed the world.

Position Summary:

As Director of Engineering for ReConnect—a multi-year initiative to modernize the internal architecture of Lineage’s proprietary warehouse management system (Connect)— you’ll lead a focused engineering team tasked with strengthening the foundation of one of the most critical platforms in our global network.

ReConnect isn’t about building new features or changing the user interface. It is about transforming what’s under the hood: improving API design, code structure, modularity, testability, and long-term maintainability—without disrupting the daily operations Connect supports across nearly 100 Lineage facilities.

While Connect already runs on a modern stack (React, React Native, Node.js, SQL Server), there’s meaningful opportunity to raise the bar on engineering quality and scalability. In this role, you’ll define what “good” looks like—delivering a golden sample and setting the blueprint for how the platform evolves in the years ahead.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role—ideal for someone who thrives in complex, high-impact environments and is eager to shape the future of supply chain technology at global scale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of internal and external technical resources to reinvest in our world-class warehouse management system
  • Set goals and expectations both within the team and with other technical and business leaders and deliver to them
  • Work closely with product management to understand business requirements and associated priorities
  • Ensure sound architectural decisions are made and documented
  • Interface with cloud engineers, tech leads, and SMEs to solve complex problems and resolve disagreement with informed, rational, and practical solutions
  • Help identify, plan, estimate, execute, and help track software engineering work
  • Explore suitable open source and commercial off the shelf software to accelerate the capabilities of the platform
  • Grow and maintain a broad and deep knowledge of supply chain operations and associated technologies
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other team members – both technical and non-technical
  • Be equally adept at managing technologists as participating in technical design and be willing to actively participate in all facets of the SDLC
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and partners
  • Travel (domestically) to meet with team members and partners

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior work on large software engineering projects (>40 team members)

  • Knowledge of supply chain processes and associated technologies is helpful
  • University degree in computer science or software engineering is preferred

  • Possess a willingness to be coached and proactively seek feedback
  • Handle multiple assignments / projects simultaneously

  • Maintain personal accountability for getting things done on time and with quality results
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders and other non-technical teammates
