Job summary

WJBK FOX 2 Detroit is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the station’s Engineering Department and oversee the reliability, security, and strategic development of broadcast, production, transmission, and digital platforms.

You will coach the engineering team, coordinate with IT and station leadership, manage budgets and capital projects, ensure FCC and ATSC compliance, and drive safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• SBE certification or equivalent professional certification preferred.
• Experience with FCC compliance, EAS, ATSC standards and digital workflows.
• Strong leadership and budgeting experience for engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Engineering Department and manage performance.
• Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all technical systems.
• Develop preventive maintenance and lifecycle planning.
• Oversee transmission facilities and compliance with FCC/EAS/ATSC.
• Maintain emergency preparedness and disaster recovery plans.
• Collaborate with IT to meet cybersecurity and networking standards.
• Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Provide budgeting and capital project guidance to leadership.
• Coordinate equipment purchases and vendor contracts.
• Oversee facility infrastructure including generators and HVAC.
• Promote safety and continuous improvement.
• Partner on technology initiatives and standards.
