Job summary

Evergreen Talent Partners partners with a global engineering and manufacturing leader to recruit a Director of Engineering for Refrigeration Technology in York, PA. This role oversees the engineering organization across standard products, custom systems, controls, and R&D, guiding 20–30 engineers toward innovation and operational excellence.

You will own budgets, forecasting, and profitability while shaping product strategy, sustainability initiatives, and next-generation heat generation

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Mechanical engineering background preferred.
• Professional Engineer license is a plus.
• Experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or industrial cooling.
• Experience leading both standard product and custom/project engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the overall engineering organization across standard products, custom systems, controls engineering, and product development.
• Manage and develop engineering leaders while directing a team of 20+ engineers.
• Drive engineering strategy, innovation, process improvement, and long-term product development initiatives.
• Ensure all products meet safety, quality, reliability, compliance, and industry codes.
• Oversee both configure-to-order equipment and large-scale custom projects ($1M–$15M).
• Own engineering budgets, forecasting, and profitability objectives.
• Lead R&D programs and sustaining engineering activities.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering.

$175,000 base + Bonus + Full Benefits

The Opportunity -

I’m currently partnered with a global engineering and manufacturing leader that is looking to bring on a Director of Engineering to lead a growing Refrigeration Technology division.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of an entire engineering organization while helping drive product innovation, operational excellence, profitability, and long-term growth.

The business designs and manufactures highly engineered industrial refrigeration systems, heat pumps, packaged chiller systems, and custom engineered solutions supporting large-scale industrial and mission-critical applications.

You’ll oversee engineering across standard products, custom engineered systems, controls engineering, R&D, and new product development, while leading a team of engineering leaders and approximately 20–30 engineers across the broader organization.

What You'll Be Doing -

• Lead the overall engineering organization across standard products, custom engineered systems, controls engineering, and product development
• Manage and develop engineering leaders while providing strategic direction to a broader team of 20+ engineers
• Drive engineering strategy, innovation, process improvement, and long-term product development initiatives
• Ensure all products meet required safety, quality, reliability, compliance, and industry code standards
• Oversee both configure-to-order equipment and large-scale custom engineered projects ranging from approximately $1M–$15M
• Own engineering budgets, forecasting, financial reviews, and profitability objectives
• Lead R&D programs, new product development initiatives, and sustaining engineering activities
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, value engineering, and operational improvements
• Partner closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Service, and senior leadership to support customer requirements and business growth
• Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and market opportunities to help shape future product strategy
• Support the organization’s continued investment in sustainability, electrification, and next-generation heat generation technologies
• Serve as a senior technical leader for complex engineering, quality, and product-related matters

What We’re Looking For -

• 8+ years of progressive engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
• Mechanical Engineering background strongly preferred
• Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus
• Strong experience within the refrigeration, HVAC, industrial cooling, or closely related industry
• Manufacturing experience involving complex packaged systems
• Experience with equipment involving pressure vessels, piping systems, mechanical systems, codes, and engineering standards
• Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and developing engineering leaders
• Experience leading both standard product and custom/project engineering teams
• Strong business and financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and profitability
• Experience with R&D, new product development, and product lifecycle management
• Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
