Job summary

Job description

Summary of Job Responsibilities

Lead the product engineering function for Akron Brass, including designing new products, re‑engineering existing ones, operational support, product liability handling, documentation, and product structure control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the engineering team and serve as the organization’s product design expert.
  • Oversee engineering of new and existing products to meet customer, schedule, and cost requirements.
  • Support manufacturing and operations with timely engineering solutions.
  • Improve engineering processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical specifications, ISO9001:2015, and the Akron Brass Quality Manual.
  • Manage shifting priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on new product introduction and manufacturing readiness.
  • Plan and manage the engineering budget and resource allocation.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate critical quality, compliance, supply, and safety risks to leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Required Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of engineering or product development experience.
  • 3+ years of managerial experience.
  • Strong skills in GD&T, 3D CAD, FEA, project management, CFD, and multi‑disciplinary engineering (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic).
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement practices.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Work Environment

Office role with 25% of time spent in a laboratory environment. Limited travel. Some moderate lifting may be required at times.
