Domtar is seeking a Director of Energy Procurement to oversee North American energy purchases and sales contracts, lead a two-person team of Energy Managers, and guide budgeting, forecasting, and hedging strategies. The role partners with utilities and operations to optimize energy costs and sustainability alignment.

The position requires deep knowledge of electricity and natural gas markets, strong analytical skills, and collaboration across the organization.

Qualificações

  • 15+ years of professional energy field experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field.

  • Incorporate sustainability into procurement strategies.
  • Manage the financial impact of energy usage for operations.

Director of Energy Procurement

Location: Fort Mill, SC

Reports to: Senior Director, Direct Materials and Energy Procurement

Position Summary

The Director of Energy Procurement is responsible for the contractual arrangements related to purchases and sales of energy for all North American sites. The role requires maintaining close relationships with suppliers, serving utilities, and the mill’s operations and management. The Director establishes budgeting and forecasting guidance at both the business and site levels, monitors energy regulatory and legislative issues, and develops intervention plans. The Director leads a team of two Energy Managers.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Negotiate and manage energy purchase and sales contracts with suppliers and utilities; make recommendations to operations.
  • Monitor and participate in state/provincial and federal energy regulatory and legislative activities; craft strategies in rate cases for electricity and natural gas.
  • Develop forecasting and budgeting guidelines and support analysis, including working with treasury on hedging price guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments to analyze energy impacts from new investments (Capex, M&A, carbon regulation, sustainability goals).
  • Understand each operation/region’s particularities to recommend the proper mix of distribution rates (firm/interruptible, etc.) considering risk factors.
  • Lead the energy managers by providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Perform market analysis and stay informed about market dynamics, emerging trends, and pricing fluctuations for electricity, natural gas, and other alternative sources.
  • Integrate sustainability and environmental considerations into procurement strategies to support responsible sourcing and reduced environmental impact.
  • Manage the financial impact of energy usage and generation to support sustainable business operations.
Key Skills
  • Good knowledge of electricity supply particulars and natural gas supply markets.
  • Solid analytical and communication skills.
  • Good collaboration skills across various levels of the organization.
Professional Experience / Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the energy field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, business management, or a related field.
