Job description

Director of Education & Member Learning
Employer: BetterInvesting
Reports to: CEO, BetterInvesting
Location: Remote-First (Occasional Travel to Troy, MI)
The Opportunity

Transform How America Learns to Invest

For 75 years, BetterInvesting has empowered everyday people to take control of their financial futures through proven, fundamentals-based stock analysis. Our Stock Selection Guide (SSG) methodology has helped generations of investors build wealth and confidence. Now, we're looking for a dynamic leader to carry this mission forward, someone who can honor our legacy while reimagining how we educate the next generation of individual investors.
This is not a maintenance role. This is a transformation opportunity.

The Role
As Director of Education & Member Learning, you will own the full lifecycle of member education, spanning curriculum strategy, content development, and program delivery. You'll modernize our educational approach for today's learners while preserving the analytical rigor that has made our methodology effective for decades. Working closely with the marketing and operations teams, you'll ensure that the quality and relevance of our educational offering supports both member acquisition and retention.
You'll report directly to the CEO and serve as a key member of the leadership team, with significant autonomy to shape strategy and drive results. You will lead and manage a team spanning home office education and magazine staff and volunteer educators, and serve as the primary Home Office liaison to BIVA (BetterInvesting Volunteer Advisory Board), which leads our volunteer network and chapter development efforts.
This is a broad role by design. BetterInvesting is a lean organization, and we're looking for someone who sees that as an opportunity to have meaningful impact, not a reason to hesitate. This position is remote-first: you can do this job from anywhere in the U.S., with occasional travel to our Troy, MI headquarters for key meetings and events.
What You'll Do
Educational Leadership
  • Own the strategy, development, and delivery of all BetterInvesting educational programs, including online courses, webinars, workshops, and in-person events
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team spanning home office education and magazine staff and volunteer educators, setting clear expectations, coaching for growth, and holding the team accountable for results
  • Develop and manage the department budget, monitoring expenses and anticipating resource needs
  • Serve as the primary Home Office subject matter expert on BetterInvesting's core analytical framework (the Stock Selection Guide) and the educational resources built around it
  • Design and maintain a structured, sequenced curriculum built around the SSG, covering foundational concepts for beginners through advanced applications for experienced investors
  • Develop new educational pathways that meet learners where they are, with clear progression from introductory to mastery-level content
  • Lead the team to create compelling content across multiple formats: video tutorials, interactive tools, written guides, and live instruction. Work closely with marketing to ensure appropriate reach, deployment, and alignment with SEO and digital acquisition goals
  • Establish metrics for educational effectiveness and continuously improve based on member outcomes, working with marketing to understand the impact of educational programming on member acquisition and retention
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with subject matter experts and guest instructors
BIVA Liaison
  • Serve as the primary Home Office point of contact for BIVA
  • Equip and empower volunteers to deliver BetterInvesting's educational mission effectively, providing the tools, frameworks, training, and support they need to teach with confidence and consistency
  • Collaborate with BIVA to develop and refine educational content that volunteers can effectively deliver to chapters and investment clubs
  • Represent volunteer perspectives in Home Office strategy discussions
Publications Advisory
  • Oversee BetterInvesting Magazine and ensure editorial content aligns with the organization's educational mission and vision
  • Collaborate with the Editor in Chief on content strategy to ensure consistency between published content and core SSG methodology
Who You Are
Required
  • Deep, genuine interest in individual investing and personal finance; you don't need to be a professional investor, but you have a working knowledge of fundamental stock analysis, believe in its power as a framework for everyday investors, and can make that conviction contagious to learners at every level
  • A genuine willingness to develop deep fluency in BetterInvesting's analytical frameworks; prior knowledge of the SSG is not required
  • Demonstrated ability to take complex subject matter and build structured, sequenced educational programs around it, from foundational concepts to advanced applications; the content drives the curriculum, not the other way around
  • 1–2 years of direct experience designing and delivering online learning programs; online education requires distinct instructional design skills, and comfort with digital learning environments, asynchronous formats, and learner engagement strategies is essential for this role
  • Experience managing and developing a team, with the ability to set clear expectations, coach for growth, and hold people accountable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analytical concepts for non-expert audiences
  • Comfort with quantitative analysis and financial calculations; the SSG is a fundamentals-based framework, and the ability to work fluently with numbers is essential to teaching it effectively
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or related field preferred)
Preferred
  • Background in financial services, investment education, or personal finance, whether professional, academic, or as a committed individual investor
  • Prior familiarity with the Stock Selection Guide or similar fundamental analysis frameworks is a plus, but not required; what matters is the ability and eagerness to develop genuine fluency
  • Experience with learning management systems and educational technology
  • Track record of successful curriculum modernization
  • Experience working with volunteer organizations or distributed team
You'll Thrive Here if You
  • Are energized by the prospect of mastering a proven analytical framework and helping others experience it for the first time
  • Find satisfaction in making complex concepts click for learners at every level
  • Believe in democratizing investment knowledge for everyday people, not just professionals
  • Can balance deep respect for proven methodology with appetite for innovation
  • Are comfortable building on existing foundations and creating new systems where gaps exist
  • Want to make a measurable difference, not just manage programs
Why BetterInvesting?
The Mission Matters
Our products and tools exist to serve one purpose: helping regular people build wealth through disciplined, long-term investing. No commissions. No conflicts of interest. Just proven methodology that has stood the test of time.
The Mandate Is Significant
You won't be maintaining a curriculum; you'll be shaping how a 75-year-old methodology gets taught to the next generation of individual investors. The SSG has guided millions of Americans through decades of market cycles. How it gets modernized, sequenced, and delivered matters. That's your call to make.
And it goes beyond the SSG. You'll play a central role in introducing the SSG Fit Score, a proprietary stock evaluation tool in development that will serve as both a member acquisition vehicle and a path to mastery for the SSG, to our member community. Getting that launch right, building the curriculum around it, and helping members understand its value is a rare opportunity to leave a lasting mark on an organization's educational identity.
The Timing Is Right
You’ll join at a pivotal moment. New leadership. Fresh strategy. Real appetite for change. The runway to make meaningful impact is clear.
The Community Is Special
Our members and volunteers are genuinely passionate. They’re not just customers; they’re evangelists who’ve seen the methodology work in their own lives and want to share it. You’ll build curriculum for an audience that actually wants to learn.
The Opportunity Is Real
This role offers unusual breadth and autonomy for a mid‑sized nonprofit. You’ll
