Director of Donor & Community Engagement

Job Title: Director of Donor & Community Engagement

Reports to: Vice President of Philanthropy

FLSA Status: Exempt

Description

Are you passionate about building meaningful relationships and nurturing community growth? We are seeking a motivated, driven, detailed, and outgoing Director of Donor & Community Engagement to join our nonprofit team. In this vital role, you will foster connections with our current donors and community members to amplify our mission and reach our fundraising goals. You will lead our engagement strategies in cultivating new major gifts and increasing members of our Legacy of Hope Giving Society (multi-year pledges), ensuring that all supporters feel valued and informed about the impact of their contributions. As a key player, you will work collaboratively with our VP of Philanthropy, board members, community influencers, and various internal teams to develop and implement innovative initiatives that enhance our outreach efforts, strengthen partnerships, and celebrate our mission impact. Your ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and your commitment to our mission to reduce the trauma of cancer will inspire others to join us in making a difference. Responsibilities

  1. Implement strategies for donor engagement and community outreach following the Benevon Sustainable Fundraising Model, a highly organized and structured fundraising system.
  2. Cultivate and manage relationships with current donors and prospective supporters.
  3. Assist and manage stewardship of Cancer Care Services' major donor portfolio, ensuring that donors experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
  4. Assist with various fundraising activities tied to the agency’s Annual Giving program, including monthly giving, year-end giving, supporting events, and more.
  5. Assist with Planned Giving program, including bequests and Donor Advised Funds.
  6. Coordinate our Heroes of Hope (Benevon) activities throughout the year, which include recruiting individuals to host and attend Cancer Care Aware Hours, and handling logistics of these mission awareness events, including preparation and follow-up.
  7. Collaborate with the program team to highlight community needs and donor impact stories.
  8. Organize our annual Heroes of Hope Luncheon, including PR, written materials, guest confirmations, maintaining donor database (Bloomerang), overseeing event logistics, securing corporate sponsorships, donor phone calls and meetings, and various preparation and follow-up activities to promote community involvement and donor engagement.
  9. Lead communication efforts related to donor & community engagement, alongside Development Coordinator.
  10. Analyze donor engagement metrics to refine strategies and improve donor relations.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree preferred and/or directly related professional skills and experience.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in donor relations or community engagement.
  3. Excellent relationship-building and community networking skills.
  4. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and goal-driven.
  5. Willingness to learn and follow the proven Benevon fundraising model. Previous experience with Benevon is a plus.
  6. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  7. Experience with Bloomerang database is a plus.
  8. Experience with Donor Search and Donor Scope is a plus.
  9. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  10. Experience in developing and implementing successful donor engagement strategies.
  11. A genuine passion for nonprofit work and a commitment to our mission.

Work Hours and Location:

The Cancer Care Services office is open Monday – Friday 8 am-5 pm. This position is full-time and requires flexibility to work various hours, evenings, and possibly weekends, depending on current program needs.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary $75,000 | Full-time | FLSA Status: Exempt

Cancer Care Services offers a variety of benefits to our staff including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a retirement match for full-time employees. Paid vacation and sick time are provided, as well as paid time off for designated holidays. The Cancer Care Services office is closed the week of Christmas, providing additional paid time off. We also offer flexible work schedules and a supportive and team-oriented environment.
