This role offers relocation assistance and is an excellent opportunity to move to Rochester, NY, leading a team of five and collaborating with the faculty advisory board and NTID, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Description: What you'll be doing

RIT is recruiting a Director of Disability Services to join their Student Affairs team on-site in Rochester, NY. This position involves leading campus-wide accessibility efforts within a diverse and innovative university community committed to inclusion and equity.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director will provide strategic vision, compliance leadership, and operational oversight for disability access and support, designing inclusive systems and guiding faculty, staff, and campus leaders towards a more accessible, student-centered experience.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Manage the Accessibility and Disability Services Office team, department budget, and student data systems.
  • Partner with campus leaders to embed accessibility into strategic planning, services, and facilities.
  • Serve as the primary advisor on accessibility and disability compliance (ADA, Section 504, NYS laws).
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop inclusive and pedagogically sound learning environments.
  • Develop assessment strategies to inform data-driven decisions and service improvements.
  • Lead and improve the accommodation process for students with disabilities.
  • Design and lead campus training on disability law, inclusive practices, and accessibility tools.
  • Participate in key committees and initiatives to advance RIT’s accessibility goals.
  • Engage in professional development and represent RIT in external disability networks.
What You’ll Bring
  • Master’s degree in higher education, special education, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in higher education disability services.
  • Deep knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and NYS disability law.
  • Experience managing accommodations, working with confidential data, and leading teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex accessibility issues to diverse audiences, especially academic leadership.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and alternative formats.
  • Appreciation for Deaf culture and willingness to learn ASL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of management experience.
  • ASL fluency.
  • Certification in disability services.
  • Experience in strategic planning and program assessment.
Salary Range

$68,800–$115,200 annually, considering role scope, experience, internal equity, and market data.
