Job summary

J T is seeking a Director of Development to lead the identification and advancement of community solar, standalone energy storage, and distributed generation opportunities in Illinois. You will manage a development team and collaborate across departments to move projects from origination through NTP.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in renewable energy and a proven leadership track, with strong market knowledge and ability to drive results in a mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, renewable energy, or a related discipline.
• Master's degree or PMP certification preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in renewable energy project development or related engineering/energy sector roles.
• Proven leadership skills with direct team management experience.
• Deep knowledge of renewable power market dynamics and development cycles.
• Strong track record of managing external consultants, regulators, and permitting stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of project finance and financial structuring.
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout the region.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute regional development strategy and manage development teams.
• Oversee full-cycle development of 100+ MW from origination to NTP.
• Apply knowledge of retail/wholesale markets; negotiate with counterparties.
• Set stage-gates for investments; assess risks and ITC optimization.
• Engage landowners, regulators, utilities; coordinate cross-functional teams.
• Report progress, budgets, and risks; drive efficiency.
