Job Title: Director of Development, Humanities and Social Sciences

Classification: Administrator II

Salary Range: $5,053 - $16,221 per month (Hiring range $7,600 - $9,300 per month)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Department

The Department of College and Program Development within the Division of University Advancement generates financial support for Cal State Fullerton, benefiting eight colleges, Student Affairs, Titan Athletics, the Arboretum and Botanical Garden, and the Pollak Library.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support fundraising activities consistent with the priorities of the Vice President for University Advancement and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Lead major gift development efforts and execute a multimillion-dollar fundraising plan in coordination with the College Dean.
  • Engage in strategic individual, foundation, and corporate fundraising; donor and alumni engagement; development events; communications; stewardship; and prospect management.
  • Manage all aspects of the donor lifecycle – qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship – while providing counsel and expertise to faculty and administrators.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with all scheduled duties, including support of university events such as annual commencement ceremonies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of demonstrated success in direct major gift fundraising.
  • Ability to solicit and secure gifts of at least $25,000.
  • Strong capacity to develop and implement persuasive cultivation strategies that strengthen the giving pipeline.
  • Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience planning and executing meaningful donor events.
  • Understanding of university culture and ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Local travel to meet with prospective donors.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment and Microsoft-based computer systems.
  • Knowledge of annual campaigns, corporate and foundation philanthropy, and digital fundraising.
  • Ability to design and implement effective donor stewardship strategies.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check (including a criminal records check).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working as a fundraising officer in higher education.
  • Experience in principal and planned giving.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and academic leadership to support fundraising campaigns.
License/Certifications
  • Valid California driver’s license.
Special Working Conditions
  • Reliable transportation to attend events and donor visits at varying times.
  • Duty indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varying environmental conditions.
  • Availability to support annual commencement ceremonies.
  • Compliance with conflict of interest, ethics, and child abuse reporting obligations as required by CSU policies.
  • Designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy; CSA training required.
