Job summary

Brightsmith partners with a utility-scale solar and energy storage Independent Power Producer seeking a Director of Development to lead a portfolio of renewable energy projects across the MISO market.

The role blends hands-on development execution with portfolio strategy, project economics, risk management, and investment decision-making. It requires a commercially minded leader who can mentor a team and clearly communicate risks and opportunities to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of renewable energy or infrastructure development experience.
• 5+ years of utility-scale renewable energy development experience or a proven track record of leading multiple projects through the full development lifecycle.
• MISO development experience strongly preferred, or knowledge of ISO/RTO interconnection processes.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to evaluate project economics and investment risks.
• Proven leadership experience, including mentoring development professionals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development lifecycle of a portfolio of renewable energy projects with emphasis on late-stage assets.
• Lead portfolio strategy, project economics, risk management, and investment decision-making.

We have partnered with a utility-scale solar and energy storage Independent Power Producer (IPP) seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead a portfolio of renewable energy projects across the MISO market.

This individual will oversee projects through the development lifecycle, with a particular focus on advancing late-stage assets. The role combines hands-on development execution with broader portfolio strategy, project economics, risk management, and investment decision-making.

The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded development leader who can navigate complex project challenges, mentor and develop a team, and effectively communicate project risks, opportunities, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.

Key Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant experience in renewable energy or infrastructure development.
• 5+ years of utility-scale renewable energy development experience, or a demonstrated track record of leading multiple utility-scale solar and/or storage projects through the full development lifecycle.
• MISO development experience strongly preferred, or experience in a comparable ISO/RTO market with a strong understanding of MISO interconnection processes and development risks.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to evaluate project economics, assess investment risks, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
• Proven leadership experience, including managing and mentoring development professionals.
