Job summary

Samaritan Community Center is seeking a Director of Development to lead fundraising efforts and manage donor relations. This role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and will shape the annual development and marketing plan, revenue goals, and budget planning.

The position requires a BS/BA in a related field and a proven nonprofit fundraising track record. Evening/weekend availability is expected as needed.

Job description

The Director of Development has overall responsibility for planning and implementing fundraising strategies, managing donor relations, and leading the development team to ensure financial sustainability of the organization. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, this position will help develop and implement the annual development and marketing plan, create revenue goals as part of the preparation of the organizational operating budget, and provide quarterly reports to the SCC Governing Board.

Education and Experience:

• BS/BA degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field required.
• Required nonprofit operations and fundraising experience with a proven track record of successful fundraising initiatives, effective communication strategies, and creating strong, healthy donor relationships.
• Personal experience giving back as a volunteer and financial donor of nonprofit organizations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Participates in the hiring and training of Development Team members.
• Organizes and oversees Development Team members’ goals, work, and schedules.
• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed in accordance with company policy.

Organizational Responsibilities:

• Agree to the tenets of the SCC Statement of Faith, SCC Statement of Unity and Belonging, and to abide by the SCC Code of Conduct.
• Create and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes monthly donors, major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and planned giving. This involves analyzing data, stewarding current donors, identifying potential donors, and cultivating relationships to secure funding following industry ethical guidelines. Samaritan Community Center does not currently utilize fundraising events as part of their overall development strategy.
• Provide effective and inspiring communication through a deep knowledge of all SCC programs and services while promoting organizational culture of being a client-centered organization focused on dignity and compassion. This includes public speaking, social media, website, and direct communication with donors, community partners, and the public at large.
• Lead a high-performing development team of staff and volunteers through guidance, goal setting, and performance monitoring to ensure that the team meets or exceeds fundraising targets. Develop and implement recruitment, training, and retention strategies in conjunction with Director of Human Resources.
• Interact with current and potential donors to properly build and steward relationships to encourage ongoing support of the organization’s mission. This includes consistent donor communication and seeking donor input on how to best keep them informed and engaged.
• Partner with Executive Director to represent Samaritan Community Center with external constituency groups including community, church, governmental, and private organizations.
• Ensure the continued financial viability of SCC programs through sound fiscal management and the creation of promotional opportunities and funding streams in conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team.
• Establish quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the development program’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Proficient and practical managerial and diplomacy skills with the ability to handle conflict situations with discretion.
• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Competent in CRM/Donor management software (ideally Donor Perfect).
• Excellent organizational and delegation skills with great attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds unassisted at times.
• Working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and outdoors in non-controlled conditions.

Salary Range:

• Exempt - $65,000-$85,000 (or based on experience)

Position Type and Hours:

• Hours will include evenings and weekends, as needed.
