Job summary

PenArt (Peninsula School Of Art) seeks a Director of Development to lead fundraising, donor relations, campaigns, and institutional support on-site in Door County, Wisconsin. The role requires a strong track record in building development programs, extensive CRM knowledge (Neon One preferred), and strategic leadership to drive advancement with the Executive Director.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in development, including 3+ in leadership, and a passion for arts education and community

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Arts Administration, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• CFRE credential preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive fundraising or development experience, with at least 3 years in leadership roles.
• Proven ability to build and sustain donor relationships and to solicit, steward gifts at all levels.
• Experience with donor CRM systems (Neon One strongly preferred) and data-driven donor engagement.
• Strong written and verbal communication to inspire and connect audiences to PenArt’s mission.
• Experience collaborating with marketing professionals and contractors on donor materials.
• Excellent strategic, analytical, and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

Job description

Peninsula School Of Art is an art company founded in 1965.

The Peninsula School of Art (PenArt), a cornerstone of creativity and community in Door County, Wisconsin, since 1965, is searching for its next Director of Development. The Director of Development will be responsible for fundraising and donor relations, campaign and institutional support, donor engagement and recognition, and strategic leadership and advancement. This is an on-site role.

The ideal candidate will bring strong development strategies, proven track record of building a development program, and strong program management experience. Additionally, they will have extensive CRM knowledge and the ability to produce analytics and measurement reports. This role will work collaboratively with the Executive Director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Arts Administration, or related field. A master's degree in arts management, or similar is preferred.
• Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in development or fundraising, with 3 years in a leadership capacity, ideally within the arts, education, or cultural nonprofit sector.
• Demonstrated success in all areas of fundraising, including major gifts, annual giving, campaigns, corporate sponsorships, foundation support, and government grants.
• Proven ability to build and sustain meaningful donor relationships and to cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts at all levels.
• Proficiency with donor CRM systems (Neon One strongly preferred) and data-driven approaches to tracking and optimizing donor engagement.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to inspire, educate, and connect diverse audiences to PenArt’s mission.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external partners, including marketing professionals and creative contractors, to develop compelling messaging and donor materials.
• Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Hands-on, collegial leader with the ability to motivate staff, engage the board, and foster collaboration across teams.
• Passion for the visual arts and arts education, with a deep appreciation for their role in community vitality and cultural enrichment.

Compensation

Compensation range of $85,000 - $100,000. On-site five-day work schedule May through October, four-day work schedule November through April, Generous Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays with a paid winter break, Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), Employee Funded Health Savings Account (HSA), Individual Retirement Plan (IRA), Professional Development, Relocation Support, Getting to live and work in beautiful Door County. Occasional weekend and evening hours for special or networking events.
