Main purpose of the Director of Design role:

This full-time, senior-level role requires a candidate capable of leading the overall design and trend strategy for multiple brands within the Contemporary Chic Segment. The Design Director will collaborate closely with executives to develop, implement, and execute monthly design plans. The role demands a deep understanding of key productivity and sales metrics, with an emphasis on clear communication of progress. The ideal candidate is an innovative leader with a passion for fashion and a comprehensive knowledge of industry trends.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Lead concept development and sketch reviews across multiple brands
  • Manage fabric selection processes
  • Oversee trend research in silhouettes, trims, and fabrics
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to communicate design plans
  • Align product mix with buying teams and company vision
  • Monitor and communicate key sales and productivity metrics
  • Optimize project timelines and ensure deadlines are met
  • Evolve design strategies in coordination with the executive team
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the design team, including setting developmental goals
  • Train and develop junior designers through workshops
  • Present lines effectively to executives and buyers
  • Develop quarterly trend decks and design plans
  • Translate trend research into sellable garments
  • Travel as needed for overseeing collections and market research
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks as directed by executives

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of senior leadership and planning experience leading design teams
  • 10+ years of professional women's apparel design experience
  • Degree in Women's Apparel Design
  • Deep knowledge of textiles, materials, and fit
  • Proficiency in CAD (Illustrator, Photoshop), hand sketching, and flat sketching
  • Experience developing tech packs
  • Strong illustration skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, and Google applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading multiple brands
  • Experience with luxury or contemporary brands
  • Experience with LA-based apparel companies

For California applicants, the estimated salary range is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, considering various factors such as experience and skill set.
