The Role

AMD seeks an experienced Director of Customer Engineering to lead a global team focused on enabling and supporting the deployment of AMD GPU-based infrastructure software and solutions in large-scale datacenter environments. You will manage a highly technical team, collaborating closely with AMD teams and cloud service providers to ensure outstanding deployment and post-deployment experiences for our AI & HPC customers.

The Person

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, management capabilities, and soft skills. Effective communication and respect-building are essential, especially when engaging with executive audiences. The ideal candidate is an ambitious engineering leader with proven experience in visualization technologies, PC system operation, and engineering processes, with strong cross-company teamwork, mentorship, and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Management: Build, lead, and mentor a global team of platform application engineers and deployment specialists focused on AMD GPU solutions. Drive hiring, coaching, and performance development.
  • Customer Support & Deployment Oversight: Serve as AMD’s technical lead for cluster software bring-up at customer datacenters, manage HPC & AI deployment requests, escalate mission-critical GPU deployments, develop collateral and documentation, and communicate critical issues internally.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Engagement: Collaborate with Infrastructure Software, ROCm, AI & HPC teams, and Field Application Engineering. Translate customer feedback into platform improvements. Act as a trusted technical advisor during onboarding and operations.
  • Operational Excellence: Define and monitor KPIs like resolution time, customer satisfaction, and deployment success. Develop support documentation, knowledge bases, and diagnostic tools. Promote continuous workflow improvements.
  • Platform Readiness & Validation: Ensure support team involvement in GPU cluster bring-up, validation, and qualification. Partner with cross-AMD teams on hardware, firmware, driver, and system compatibility testing.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in Hyperscaler, CSP, or Tier-1 OEM/ODM environments.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments, orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes), and GPU workload benchmarking.
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • 5+ years in customer support or deployment engineering leadership.
  • Deep expertise in datacenter infrastructure, HPC, AI/ML, or GPU workloads.
  • Experience supporting large-scale datacenter GPU platforms and managing enterprise escalations.
Academic Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Location

Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA preferred. Remote work possible.
