Job description

Director of Cooperative Development and Support Services

New Orleans Firemen’s Federal Credit Union

Serving 35 Communities & Parishes Across Louisiana and Southern Mississippi

Are you a mission-driven leader who believes in the power of cooperation? Do you want to help stabilize, strengthen, and grow credit unions — not just one, but many? If so, Firemen’s Federal Credit Union is looking for you.

We are expanding our leadership team and seeking a Director of Cooperative Development and Support Services to lead our work supporting at‑risk credit unions, guiding turnaround strategies, developing strategic business plans, and expanding access to financial services across underserved communities.

This is a rare opportunity to live the cooperative principle of People Helping People at a regional scale — and to help preserve credit unions where they are needed most.

About the Role

As Director of Cooperative Development and Support Services, you will play a transformational leadership role within our organization. This management team–level role carries significant responsibility, autonomy, and influence across multiple institutions and communities and reports directly to the CEO.

You will:
  • Develop and oversee a regional strategy to assist at-risk credit unions referred by regulators.
  • Build collaborative solutions that prioritize member well‑being and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead Firemen’s Federal Credit Union teams deployed to support partner credit unions.
  • Design and implement operational recovery plans.
  • Facilitate annual board and management strategic planning sessions to develop actionable strategic business plans.
  • Develop innovative models that preserve cooperative values.
  • Structure and negotiate partnership or merger agreements with transparency and fairness.
  • Work with executive peers to expand our services into 35 underserved communities and parishes across Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.
Represent the movement
  • Build strong relationships with NCUA, state regulators, leagues, and credit union partners.
  • Position Firemen’s Federal Credit Union as a regional leader with national reach in cooperative recovery and development.
Who We’re Looking For

An experienced, values-driven leader with:

  • Senior leadership experience in credit unions or financial institutions.
  • Strong knowledge of NCUA regulations, CAMELS ratings, ALM practices, and credit union governance.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana OFI, Mississippi DB&CF, and the ability to work with regulators in states such as Tennessee and Alabama.
  • Experience leading board and management strategic planning sessions.
  • Proven ability to build cooperative, non‑predatory partnerships.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A mission-centered mindset aligned with People Helping People.
Why This Role Matters

The Director of Cooperative Development and Support Services will help shape the future of Firemen’s Federal Credit Union and strengthen the financial resilience of communities across Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. You will help preserve credit unions that would otherwise disappear — protecting member access, dignity, and local ownership.

This is more than a job. This is leadership in service to a movement.

This position comes with a tiered salary range of $75,119 to $95,873.

Benefits
  • A generous portion of health insurance paid by NOFFCU
  • Dental insurance paid at 100%
  • Vision insurance paid at 100%
  • 401K with matching contribution
  • Life insurance valued at your annual salary
  • Short-Term and Long-Term disability insurance
  • 2 weeks of sick and vacation leave
  • Paid holidays
  • 0% interest clothing loan for $500
