Every Pregnancy

Every Pregnancy is a bold, partner-driven initiative committed to saving the lives of mothers and babies worldwide. Despite global progress in healthcare, nearly 800 women still die every day from pregnancy-related complications—most of them preventable. These deaths disproportionately affect women in fragile, conflict-affected, and underserved communities.

We are changing this narrative. Every Pregnancy connects the voices of the most affected women with changemakers around the world. Through our coalition of 33 organizations—based in the UK, US, Pakistan, Yemen and operating in over over 20—we mobilize communities, drive resources, and scale holistic, culturally sensitive maternal health interventions that ensure that every pregnancy is safe.

We connect the voices of the most affected women with changemakers around the world. Through our coalition, we mobilize communities, drive resources, and scale holistic, culturally sensitive maternal health interventions that ensure that every pregnancy is safe.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced, creative, and strategic Director of Communications and External Affairs to lead our global communications and external engagement efforts. This role will drive narrative change, strengthen public and partner visibility, and position Every Pregnancy as a trusted voice in maternal health and social justice.

You will lead high-impact storytelling, media engagement, coalition communications, and advocacy efforts that amplify the lived experiences of women in underserved settings and elevate the work of our global partners. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and strategic thinker with a passion for equity and an instinct for building meaningful relationships across diverse audiences.

This is a leadership role with cross-cutting influence across our campaigns, coalition-building, resource mobilization, and advocacy strategies.

  • Design and implement a global communications strategy that elevates Every Pregnancy’s mission, values, and impact.
  • Craft compelling narratives, messages, and content that reflect the voices of women and communities most affected by maternal health challenges.
  • Develop and manage editorial calendars, talking points, press materials, and brand assets.
Media & Public Engagement
  • Lead media outreach efforts, develop strong relationships with journalists, and secure high-profile coverage in global, regional, and faith-based outlets.
  • Represent Every Pregnancy at external forums, conferences, and public events.
  • Prepare spokespersons and partners with media training, key messages, and strategic guidance.
Coalition & Partner Communications
  • Coordinate communication flows across our diverse coalition to ensure alignment, inclusivity, and shared visibility.
  • Support partners in amplifying joint campaigns and maternal health success stories.
  • Develop co-branded content and toolkits for use across partner platforms and languages.
Advocacy & External Affairs
  • Align communications with advocacy goals to influence policy, funding, and public awareness of maternal health needs.
  • Engage with global health networks, donors, and government agencies to position Every Pregnancy as a trusted partner.
  • Contribute to advocacy campaigns, coalition statements, and policy briefs.
  • Oversee the development and management of digital platforms including the website, newsletters, and social media.
  • Ensure high-quality visual and written content that is accessible, inclusive, and resonates across cultures.
  • Track engagement metrics and adapt strategies to grow Every Pregnancy’s global reach.
Who You Are
  • A powerful storyteller and communicator with a deep commitment to maternal health and social justice.
  • A strategic thinker who thrives in fast-paced, start-up-like environments with a global lens.
  • A culturally fluent and emotionally intelligent leader, capable of connecting with diverse audiences across geographies and sectors.
  • Collaborative, diplomatic, and confident managing complex relationships with humility and care.
  • Creative, proactive, and excited to build systems and strategies that don’t yet exist.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, international relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or external affairs, preferably with international nonprofits or social impact organizations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of high-impact media and advocacy work.
  • Demonstrated experience working across diverse cultures and time zones.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional language skills, especially Arabic or Urdu, are a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, digital communication tools, and media monitoring platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), gender equity, or humanitarian advocacy.
  • Strong network of media and advocacy contacts in the UK, US, or Global South.
  • Familiarity with brand strategy, design tools, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Prior experience supporting remote and multicultural teams.
  • Every Pregnancy is an equal opportunity organization. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and are proud to encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
