As Director of Communications, you’ll lead MLC’s communications team and work across the organization to strengthen our brand, connect educators with our products and services, and expand our reach.

This role combines strategic direction with direct execution. You’ll develop and deliver integrated marketing campaigns, shape messaging and content, oversee marketing technology and analytics, and lead our conference, trade show, and event marketing strategy. If you enjoy turning ideas into action, finding better ways to reach audiences, and helping a mission‑driven organization grow, we’d love to hear from you.

This position is based in Oregon. In this hybrid or fully onsite role, office days are in our Portland office.

What you will do:

Translate organizational priorities into coordinated marketing campaigns that build awareness, engage customers, and support MLC's growth and impact.

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns that support customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and business development.

  • Partner with colleagues across MLC to promote products and services and coordinate marketing activities around organizational priorities.

  • Develop audience‑specific messaging that helps educators understand MLC’s offerings and take meaningful next steps.

  • Manage campaign plans, timelines, and deliverables to ensure work is focused, coordinated, and completed on schedule.

Shape content & strengthen our brand

Make MLC’s value clear to educators and other stakeholders through compelling storytelling, accessible messaging, and consistent brand expression.

  • Translate MLC’s educational philosophy, products, and expertise into clear, engaging content that resonates with customer audiences.

  • Guide brand strategy and maintain consistent messaging, voice, tone, and visual standards across communications and marketing channels.

  • Lead MLC’s conference, trade show, and event marketing strategy, including event selection, audience priorities, objectives, messaging, and evaluating results against marketing and organizational goals.

Use technology and data to improve marketing effectiveness

Strengthen MLC’s marketing capabilities by improving the tools, processes, and insights that support audience engagement.

  • Manage and optimize Salesforce and Salesforce Marketing Cloud to support campaigns, audience segmentation, automated communications, lead nurturing, and customer retention.

  • Use campaign performance, customer data, and other relevant measures to evaluate results, identify opportunities, and recommend improvements.

  • Develop efficient workflows and use marketing technology to improve coordination, consistency, and the effectiveness of marketing investments.

Lead the communications team

Provide direction and support that enables the communications team to deliver high‑quality work and advance MLC’s organizational priorities.

  • Set team priorities and translate organizational goals into a focused work plan that balances strategic initiatives, ongoing responsibilities, and emerging needs.

  • Coach and develop team members, establish clear expectations, and support accountability for results.

  • Establish practical processes, templates, and tools that improve the quality, consistency, efficiency, and measurability of the team’s work.

Support effective internal communications

Partner with leadership to keep employees informed, connected, and aligned with organizational priorities.

  • Draft and coordinate internal communications, including staff updates, all‑staff meetings, and presentations.

  • Develop communication approaches that strengthen employee engagement and collaboration.

How you are qualified:
