Director of Clinical Services
Specialized Residential Services (SRS)
Location: Flint, Michigan, with travel to SRS residential programs
Job type: Full-time, salaried
About the Role
Specialized Residential Services is seeking an experienced clinical leader to build and lead clinical services across our residential programs. The Director of Clinical Services helps identify changes in medical, psychiatric, behavioral, and medication-related needs; coordinates follow-through with providers and support teams; and helps ensure each person receives the support needed to remain safe and stable.
We welcome candidates from nursing, social work, psychology, behavioral health, case management, and related clinical fields. The right person will be comfortable supporting people with complex needs, working across disciplines, and building practical systems residential teams can use every day.
What You’ll Do
- Lead or oversee a documented monthly clinical review for each person served, including health, behavioral, medication, hospital, incident, and support trends.
- Establish clinical baselines and risk classifications, and ensure emerging concerns have clear action steps, owners, and follow-up dates.
- Coordinate with physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, behavioral providers, CMH teams, guardians, and SRS leaders.
- Lead clinical follow-through after significant changes in condition, hospitalizations, medication concerns, psychiatric deterioration, or serious incidents.
- Review complex referrals, admissions, hospital returns, and other transitions for readiness, monitoring, equipment, and staff training needs.
- Make data-informed recommendations about staffing, supervision, nursing, behavioral services, equipment, and other supports.
- Develop clinical policies, review tools, training content, competency expectations, and quality-improvement processes.
- Build Clinical Services capacity, including case-management, backup coverage, and a future crisis-response model.
- Lead placement-stability reviews and coordinate with the person’s team and SRS departments to identify supports that may help maintain the placement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, psychology, behavioral health, human services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least five years of relevant experience in clinical services, case management, behavioral health, healthcare, IDD, or residential services.
- Experience supporting people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral health or psychiatric needs, complex care needs, community services, or a related population.
- Experience coordinating care across healthcare, behavioral, guardian, case-management, and operational teams.
- Knowledge of medication systems, changes in clinical status, hospital transitions, and provider follow-up.
- Strong documentation, communication, organization, and follow-through.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel among SRS programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Michigan professional license or credential in a relevant field, such as RN, LMSW, LPC, or LLP.
- Nursing experience or other experience coordinating medical care and hospital transitions.
- Five or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience in leadership, clinical management, case management, behavioral health, IDD, adult foster care, or residential services.
- Experience with quality improvement, risk management, incident review, or clinical data.
- Familiarity with Michigan CMH systems, IPOS requirements, AFC licensing, Recipient Rights, or behavioral treatment planning.
- Experience building teams, policies, dashboards, or clinical programs.
First-Year Priorities
The Director will establish clinical baselines and risk classifications, implement a reliable monthly review and follow-up process, standardize hospital and medication-transition workflows, and develop clinical coverage and case-management capacity based on organizational needs.
Work Setting
This role supports multiple residential programs and requires regular travel. Participation in clinical escalation and coverage arrangements may be required; specific scheduling and on-call expectations will be communicated by SRS.
