Job description

MaineHealth Maine Medical Center is currently seeking a Director of Clinical Research to join their Cardiovascular Service Line (CVSL) in Portland, Maine. Working in collaboration with the CVSL Chief, Division Directors, and the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, the CVSL Director of Clinical Research will oversee all research activities conducted by faculty, trainees, and staff of the CVSL, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of the Service line and Maine Health Academic Affairs Strategic Plan.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DrPH) in relevant biomedical discipline.
  • Completion of post-doctoral training or research fellowship.
  • Five or more years of applicable experience within the field and discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills demonstrated by a strong record of scientific publications and presentations.
  • Ability to design and conduct biomedical research studies; scientific acumen.
  • Organizational, personnel management, business, and strategic planning skills.
  • Experience in staff administration and management.
  • Ability to manage grants and grant accounting effectively.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, compliance policies, and human subject protections related to research; familiarity with IRB submissions.
  • Active engagement with research trends in Cardiovascular Medicine and related fields.
  • Advanced statistical training with working knowledge of programs like SPSS, SAS, R, Stata, Excel, etc.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, teamwork, mentorship, honesty, selflessness, modesty, empathy, openness, and fairness.

The Physician will engage in scholarly activities to enhance cardiovascular research, including participating in clinical discussions, presenting at conferences, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, writing reviews or book chapters, applying for research grants, mentoring faculty, serving on peer-review committees, and other scholarly endeavors aimed at knowledge dissemination. The primary goal is to increase participation and diversity in CVSL research.
