Descrizione del lavoro

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) seeks an academic clinical microbiologist to serve as Medical Director of Conventional Clinical Microbiology and Scientific Leader with a nationally recognized research program at the interface of clinical microbiology, diagnostics, and infectious diseases. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage the clinical microbiology laboratory as a platform for translational discovery leading to improved patient care.

This position will serve as Medical Director of conventional clinical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, and parasitology, utilizing culture, microscopy, and phenotypic methods for organism detection and identification. A defining feature of this position is a substantial protected research commitment. The successful candidate will be expected to establish, sustain, and grow an independent and/or highly collaborative, extramurally funded research program that bridges clinical microbiology with fundamental and translational investigation.

At OHSU, you’ll find:
  • Robust academic environment: Work alongside a growing and collegial faculty, contribute to residency and fellowship training, and pursue collaborative research opportunities.
  • Dynamic clinical practice: A growing infectious diseases community serving adult, transplant, oncology, and pediatric patients with the opportunity to help shape the OHSU microbiology laboratory’s development into a regional reference center, extending specialized microbiology services to OHSU and our regional partners.
  • Cutting-edge infectious disease research: An opportunity to help define the next generation of infectious disease diagnostics through potential research in metagenomic sequencing for difficult-to-diagnose infections, rapid detection of antimicrobial resistance, and AI-assisted interpretation of digital microbiology images.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality, compliant, and innovative laboratory operations, including test utilization, quality management, regulatory oversight, and clinical consultation; designing and conducting clinical, translational, and/or basic science research; and contributing to multidisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Competitive salary and robust benefits which include a generous PTO plan, medical, dental, vision, sign-on bonus, relocation bonus, multiple retirement options, and participation in the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
  • As Oregon’s only academic health center, OHSU offers a unique blend of clinical excellence, research innovation, and education. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. Live and work in Portland; a vibrant city with incredible food, culture, and easy access to world-class hiking, skiing, and coastline adventures.
