Position Summary

Reed Smith Legal Solutions (RSLS) seeks a dynamic and experienced Director of Client Development to build and lead the sales operations strategy for the RSLS brand. As the first sales hire, this pivotal role will focus on driving business growth, increasing service awareness, and forging strategic relationships with three key target client groups: Reed Smith Partners and attorneys, in house legal and compliance departments at Fortune 500 companies, and Gravity Stack’s direct sales clients outside of Reed Smith.

The Director of Client Development – RSLS will develop the go-to-market strategy, lay the foundation for a high performing sales team, and collaborate with RSLS service team leaders (Gravity Stack, RED Team, Staff Attorneys, Leeds Legal) to align offerings with Reed Smith’s key practice areas, industry groups, and verticals. This is a high-impact leadership position requiring a proven track record in sales leadership within Big 4 consulting, legal services, or legal technology environments, with specific experience selling services such as e-discovery, document review, investigations, digital forensics, forensic accounting, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Build and execute a comprehensive sales operations strategy to grow RSLS revenue across all target client segments, including Reed Smith internal stakeholders, Fortune 500 corporate clients, and Gravity Stack’s external clients.
  • Establish the framework for a future sales team, with a focus on growing and scaling the team over time to meet ambitious growth targets, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and client-centricity.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within Reed Smith’s partnership and Fortune 500 legal/compliance departments, leveraging relationships to position RSLS as the go-to solution provider for legal and advisory services, including e-discovery, document review, investigations, digital forensics, forensic accounting, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
  • Drive brand awareness for RSLS through targeted marketing campaigns, thought leadership, and industry events, positioning RSLS as a leader in legal technology and advisory services.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Reed Smith partners, attorneys, and key corporate decision-makers to ensure seamless integration of RSLS services into their workflows and client offerings.
  • Partner with RSLS service team leaders to align sales initiatives with service capabilities, ensuring offerings meet the needs of key practice areas (e.g., litigation, regulatory, transactional) and industry verticals (e.g., financial services, healthcare, technology).
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor activities, and client needs to refine RSLS’s value proposition and go-to-market approach.
  • Establish and track KPIs to measure sales performance, client satisfaction, and market penetration, reporting progress to the Global Partner and senior leadership.

Requirements

Education:. Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced degree in business, marketing, or a related field is a strong plus but not mandatory.

Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive sales leadership experience with a proven track record of building sales operations and leading growth initiatives at a Big 4 consulting firm, legal service provider, or legal technology company.
  • Experience working with or selling to Am Law 100 law firms and Fortune 500 companies.
  • Knowledge of Reed Smith’s key practice areas (e.g., litigation, financial services, regulatory) and industry verticals (e.g., healthcare, energy, technology).
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a matrixed organization as the inaugural sales leader.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of legal services, legal technology, and advisory services, with specific experience selling investigations, digital forensics, forensic accounting, cybersecurity, and digital transformation solutions to law firms and/or corporate legal and compliance departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement sales strategies from the ground up, with the vision to grow and manage a team in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, with a history of forging trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders, including law firm partners and C-suite executives
  • Familiarity with legal tech solutions (e.g., e-discovery platforms, AI-driven contract management, project management tools) and specialized services such as digital forensics, cybersecurity tools, and digital transformation platforms is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in developing and executing go-to-market strategies that drive revenue growth and brand recognition.

Working Conditions

Works in a typical office settingand/or remotely. You will be required to work in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.

Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend industry events, and collaborate with Reed Smith offices globally

Pay Ranges

This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

  • Pittsburgh, Miami, Texas, Denver, Atlanta Richmond: $196,700-$261,300
  • Chicago, Philadelphia, Wilmington: $210,469-$279,591
  • Tysons, Princeton, Washington, DC: $224,238-$297,882
  • New York, Sacramento: $232,106-$308,334
  • Northern California: $245,875-$326,625.
