Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University invites applications for the Director of Choral Activities at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This full-time benefited (9-month) career-contract position will begin in August 2027 on the University’s main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University invitesapplications for the Director of Choral Activities position at theAssistant or Associate Professor level. This full-time benefited(9-month) career-contract position, located on the University’smain campus in Winchester, Virginia, will begin in August2027.

Shenandoah Conservatory Choir, one of three choral ensembleswithin the Conservatory, specializes in music encompassingeverything from historical repertoire to the most cutting-edgecontemporary choral compositions. Emphasis is placed on programmingmusic inspired by a wide variety of world cultures and from a broadspectrum of composers.

Beyond directing the Conservatory Choir, the chosen candidate willteach choral conducting across levels, and work with choralcolleagues to further elevate the choral culture at ShenandoahConservatory. The Director of Choral Activities will activelyrecruit for Conservatory programs, build relationships with highschool choral programs in the mid-Atlantic region, and advance theConservatory's reputation as a premier and innovative place ofstudy where artists from diverse backgrounds actively engage aroundinnovative and collaborative work. Specifically, the desiredcandidate will:

• Administer the choral area, direct Conservatory Choir, teachundergraduate courses in conducting and guide masters and doctoralconducting study;
• Collaborate with the Vocal Choral Division and contribute to acohesive and collegial faculty that includes specialists inclassical, musical theatre, and commercial voice;
• Collaborate with colleagues and the deans to design, develop,and implement recruitment strategies;
• Actively participate in faculty meetings, auditions; and
• Teach specialized courses in areas of expertise.
