Easley First United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries. This role requires providing vision and leadership for ministries involving children from infants to grade 5, and youth from grades 6 through 12. The ideal candidate will foster relationships with families, train volunteers, and implement transformative programs to engage the community.
Easley First United Methodist Church (EFUMC) in Easley, SC, is seeking a full-time Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries (DCYFM). The DCYFM will provide vision, leadership and coordination for the ministry of children (infants through grade 5), youth (grades 6 through 12), and their families under supervision of the Senior Pastor.
The DCYFM must have a deep love of God, passion for the role, and a vision for ministry to children, youth and their families. Building relationships with the families, developing teams of volunteers, and implementing an exciting, spiritually transformative and growing ministry is critical for EFUMC.
General Qualifications
• Demonstrate Christian values, both in his/her professional and private life; have a working knowledge of scripture and be amenable to Wesleyan polity and doctrine.
• Preferably hold a degree in an appropriate field of study (i.e.: Christian or General Education).
• Experience working in a medium to large membership church in the area of youth and children’s programs and education.
• Have a working knowledge and ability to communicate with youth and parents through various social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc).
• Ability to plan, organize, lead and provide guidance to complex projects and spontaneous activities related to children, youth and family ministries.
• Competence in basic counseling and listening skills appropriate for children, youth and family ministries.
• Willingness to work cooperatively/collaboratively with others.
• Maintain a positive attitude and be flexible in solving problems.
• Ability to exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with the children’s, youth and family coordinators and the chairperson of the Sunday School and Small Groups to recruit, train and support volunteers, teachers and counselors who work with children, youth and families.
• Coordinate, evaluate and provide educational resources for EFUMC’s ministry for children, youth and families.
• Develop a cadre of volunteers who will assist in ministry-related activities.
• Coordinate schedules and initiate publicity for all programs involving children, youth and families with the church office and/or Communications Chairperson, as necessary.
• Plan for use of United Methodist curriculum when appropriate and incorporate other resources as needed that are available in cooperation with the Sunday School and Small Groups Director and the Church Council.
• Monitor programs, events and classes to ensure teachers and supervisors are provided for children, youth and families.
• Develop and plan for regular Family Council meetings.
• Plan and supervise special services (i.e., Youth, Children’s and Confirmation Sundays).
• Attend special activities and functions in which children, youth or families are involved.
• Initiate, encourage, and supervise special trips, retreats, and work projects for youth, such as Spiritual Life Retreats, Salkehatchie Summer Service, and ski trips.
• Serve as advisor for the annual confirmation experience for 6th-grade youth. This should include coordination and planning of the Youth Confirmation Retreat.
• Attend all staff, NOW, and Church Council meetings except for excused absences.
• Attend at least one training opportunity appropriate to job responsibilities.
• Regularly attend both worship services at FUMC as Sunday will be considered a workday. Normal days off will be Saturday and one other day that is not Sunday.
• Complete Safe Sanctuary Training.
• Participate in denominational, conference, and district programs and training opportunities and be available as time permits to give leadership and support to district and conference programs as requested. Such commitments will be made after consultation with the Senior Pastor.
