Director of Children and Youth Ministries

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries (DCYM) is a full-time position that would coordinate FPC children’s and youth activities (ages 2 through 17). The DCYM would be responsible for developing and sustaining the children’s program to provide a fun and encouraging atmosphere to develop faith by studying the Bible and participating in age-appropriate arts and crafts, recreation and fellowship. The youth program (middle school and high school) should be a vibrant and growing ministry for inviting and enabling this group to participate in activities that are engaging while learning and understanding both the Old and New Testaments and teaching their relevance to the youth’s lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Create deep and meaningful relationships with the youth and youth leadership to facilitate Christian discipleship.
  • Develop and facilitate adult leaders to assist in the youth and children’s ministries.
  • Coordinate all Sunday School activities for children and youth.
  • Teach Sunday School for middle and high school youth.
  • Plan and coordinate Confirmation classes and criteria for youth.
  • Lead children and youth into becoming Disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Provide activities for the spiritual growth and enrichment of the children and youth.
  • Create opportunities for youth and children to participate in worship and serve the church and community.
  • Engage parents seeking input to develop and provide a success-based strategy for the children and youth’s spiritual growth.
  • Develop an annual plan of events and activities including goals, success metrics, timelines, necessary funding, and strategies for obtaining objectives.
  • Provide a written report monthly to the Discipleship Committee on the status of the children and youth programs.
  • Develop a long-term plan with all stakeholders to engage the congregation and community to grow and build a dynamic, Christ-following Children’s and Youth Program.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Session.

Education and Qualifications:

Required:

  • CPR Certification for children.
  • Acceptable background check.
  • Flourishing growth and evident faith as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize classes, activities and volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively with children, youth and adults.
  • Understanding and acceptance of Reformed Theology, and ECO polity and tenets; ensuring that all curricula and activities are consistent with this doctrine.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading a youth program within a church environment.
  • Experience leading mission trips, camps and retreats for youth.
  • Interest in furthering education in Youth Ministry or other theological callings.

Compensation:

  • Salary commensurate with education and experience ($45K – $55K).
  • Paid health insurance.
  • Retirement plan upon meeting eligibility.
  • Seven (7) paid holidays.
  • Paid time off (PTO) – start at 10-days per year, after a 6-month probationary period.
