Job description

Director of Campus Safety – Staff Position

JOB SUMMARY: WPU strives to create a vibrant learning community for all its members, including students, staff, and faculty. DEPARTMENT: Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education: Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement or related field is strongly recommended; bachelors degree preferred.
B. Experience: Five years experience in law enforcement preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.

REPORTS TO: Dean of Students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Provides supervision and direction for the safety and security of University personnel.
B. Supervises and schedules the WP safety officers.
C. Monitors daily operational procedures for the WP campus. Ensures that safety officers work collaboratively with campus personnel.
D. Ensures that safety personnel are knowledgeable about WP policies and procedures and maintains professional interactions with students, employees and vendors/contractors.
E. Be available to respond to any emergency situations on campus, as necessary.
F. Directs investigations related to WP policies and law enforcement issues.
G. Maintain accurate documentation on all reported incidents and provide information to Judicial Board and law enforcement as needed.
H. Coordinates the development and implementation of annual updates for necessary safety policies and guidelines; including but not limited to, Emergency Management System notification, campus safety initiatives and employee development for safety initiatives.
I. Responsible for completion of Annual Security Report (ASR) in compliance with Clery Act.
J. Responsible for staying current with changes and updates regarding Clery Act compliance.
K. Oversee completion of daily log/crime log.
L. Serve as an Investigator for the Title IX Committee.
M. Collaborate with other entities of the University for prevention campaigns.
N. Responsible for use of student information system (CAMS) and train members of department for appropriate use and data collection. Also responsible for working with Residence Life for current housing assignment information.
O. Execute successful collection of student car information and disperse parking stickers annually.
P. Evaluate members of safety staff annually.
Q. Oversee and stay within budget guidelines for campus safety.
R. Develop and maintain necessary training programs.
S. Represents WP as a professional and courteous liaison with local law enforcement.
T. Must be knowledgeable about Iowa Criminal Code and local law enforcement ordinances.
U. Must be certified in first aid, AED and CPR.
V. Must have valid Iowa Driver’s license.
W. Other duties as assigned.
X. This position may require evening and weekend hours.
