Position: Director of Business Development – Higher Education

Location: Remote (with travel requirements)

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Business Development – Higher Education to lead sales efforts in the college and university segment. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial sales leader with a proven track record of selling contract foodservice management solutions to higher education institutions. This individual thrives on building meaningful relationships, crafting tailored solutions, and driving measurable growth through a consultative sales process.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead Sales Strategy: Develop and execute effective sales strategies to achieve revenue goals within the higher education market.
  2. Pipeline Development: Build and manage a three-year pipeline of qualified prospects; leverage CRM tools for tracking and communication.
  3. Proposal & RFP Management: Evaluate RFPs and RFIs; lead the development of proposals using company resources and financial modeling tools.
  4. Client Engagement: Manage client relationships through discovery meetings, presentations, tastings, and contract negotiations.
  5. Industry & Market Research: Stay current on industry trends and competitor activity to refine positioning and sales strategies.
  6. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain knowledge of contracting regulations and institutional requirements for higher education clients.
  7. Internal Collaboration: Partner with culinary, operations, marketing, and leadership teams to develop comprehensive, client-centered solutions.
  8. Reporting: Provide regular updates on sales activity, pipeline status, and market intelligence; ensure CRM data accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of consultative sales experience, including 3 years selling contract foodservice management solutions to higher education institutions.
  • Strong understanding of campus dining operations, student experience priorities, and university procurement and contracting processes.
  • Proven success in developing complex financial proformas and conducting financial analyses.
  • Track record of exceeding sales targets and negotiating contracts successfully.
  • Proficiency in responding to RFPs/RFIs.
  • Existing network and relationships in higher education preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
