As the firm continues to focus on revenue growth, client development, and long-term sustainability, we are seeking a Director of Business Development to lead and expand the firm’s business development function. This is a full-time, in-office position based in the firm’s Voorhees, NJ office.

This is a senior leadership role for a business development professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution — someone who is equally comfortable advising firm leadership, partnering with attorneys, and working hand-in-hand with a talented team. Collaboration is central to how we work at Archer, and this role will work across practice groups and departments to support the firm's business development priorities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the firm's business development function, overseeing the daily operations of a six-member team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative department.
  • Partner with Executive Management to develop and execute the firm's strategic business development direction, translating firm priorities into actionable plans across practice groups.
  • Oversee the firm's business intelligence function, directing research on industries, clients, markets, and competitors to inform business development planning and identify growth opportunities.
  • Design and implement strategies to deepen existing client relationships, increase client retention, and expand the firm's client base.
  • Identify and direct new business initiatives across practice groups, including thought leadership programs, client events, sponsorships, and other relationship-building opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of pitches, RFP responses, and the firm’s Chambers submissions, ensuring quality and strategic alignment across all business development materials.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Marketing and Branding to align business development and marketing strategies and ensure a consistent approach to firm growth and client engagement.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Communications to ensure business development messaging and client-facing content are consistent with the firm's broader communications strategy.
  • Work collaboratively across departments and practice groups to build a firmwide culture of business development, engaging attorneys and administrative leaders as active partners in growth initiatives.
  • Prepare and manage the business development budget, track expenses, and evaluate return on investment across initiatives.
  • Report regularly to the Chief Operating Officer on business development activity, priorities, outcomes, and recommended initiatives.
  • Assess departmental needs and implement solutions, including workflow improvements, performance management, professional development, and hiring.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading business development teams in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships across departments and with senior leadership.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership and high-performing professionals.
  • Strong business intelligence and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate market data and research into actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build trust and influence attorneys and firm leadership.
  • Proven experience managing budgets and evaluating the return on business development investments.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce compelling pitches, proposals, business development materials, and executive-level communications.
