Job description

Director of Audiology, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking an assistant, associate, or full professor level candidate to lead its Audiology program. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of clinical excellence and academic productivity, providing leadership in a multi-subspecialty Audiology program integrated into the department's clinical and research missions.

The candidate is expected to develop a clinical practice in their area of expertise and establish a research program. Collaboration with basic and translational scientists within the department is encouraged where feasible.

Principal Responsibilities
  1. Provide clinical and academic leadership in audiology to practitioners at MHealth Fairview and Otolaryngology faculty, especially within the Division of Otology and Neurotology.
  2. Assume clinical leadership roles in collaboration with the Neurotology Division Chief and MHealth Fairview Audiology leadership.
  3. Develop new clinical programs to keep the university at the forefront of diagnostic and treatment options.
  4. Oversee ongoing competency and clinical training for audiology practitioners.
  5. Enhance visibility of established clinical programs such as cochlear implantation and skull base surgery, and develop tertiary care services for vestibular disorders.
  6. Engage in teaching residents, fellows, medical students, audiology practicum students, and externs.
  7. Initiate and sustain a research program in areas like vestibular research, clinical neurophysiology, or cochlear implants.
  8. Support resident and fellow research efforts within the candidate’s expertise.
  9. Seek external funding opportunities where appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Audiology or Hearing Science, plus a professional degree (e.g., MA/MS + PhD or AuD + PhD).
  • Experience in a medical setting with effective collaboration with physician colleagues.
  • Clinical expertise in one or more audiology or vestibular sciences.
  • Strong communication skills and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to obtain Audiology licensure in Minnesota.
Desired Qualifications
  • Successful program development experience.
  • Ability to build cohesive clinical teams.
  • Experience mentoring students and trainees.
  • External funding experience, with evidence of successful funding acquisition, is highly desirable.
  • National and international recognition is also preferred.
