Position Title: Director of Athletic Strategic Communications & Digital Media

Position Reports To: Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations, Athletic Marketing and Senior Woman Administrator

Position Overview:

Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12-month, full time position of Director of Athletic Strategic Communications & Digital Media. The Director of Athletic Strategic Communications & Digital Media will be a key contributor to developing a strategic plan for the athletics department. They will actively pitch stories to local, regional, and national media outlets with the goal of increasing the school’s brand awareness. They will lead the day-to-day efforts of the communications department and be a liaison to the media, conference and campus entities. They will monitor daily Jasper Athletics in the news and through written and visual content increase followers on social media, website traffic, and game attendance through the publications on Manhattan Athletics platforms. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Responsibilities:

Provide media coverage for assigned teams, which includes updating the website after every game and with other pertinent information, as well as compiling and maintaining statistics.

Nominate student-athletes for various awards from the conference, NCAA, and other organizations throughout the year.

Manage social media accounts for both the Athletics department and the individual teams.

Deliver a sports communication program that meets Division I standards.

Collaborate with the University’s communication department and the ESPN+ production staff.

Oversee the management of game-day operations, including all statistics and staffing, as well as ensuring that the broadcast is of high quality for viewership.

Ensure that photos of student-athletes, coaches and staff are current and are in alignment with rosters.

Highlight moments of achievements.

Projects such as a new website, visitors’ guide, EOTY recaps and handling interview requests while soliciting possible story ideas that will further promote Manhattan University and its teams to different media outlets.

Develop human interest stories and other stories of interest to showcase our student-athletes and extend the athletic brand.

Maximize social media connections and web site communications.

Oversee the graphics designs that are created for teams, stories and branding.

Secure game day staff at scorer’s table/booth and that post game interviews are coordinated.

Staff supervision, meetings with University staff and budget maintenance.

Traveling when possible to select away competitions and championships.

  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time experience at the Division I level.

Assertive, outgoing, hard-working and resourceful.

Ability to design marketing materials; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop preferred.

Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Possess a valid driver’s license.

Required to travel and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail and keep specific timelines.

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to problem solve.

Ability to work effectively with coaches, faculty, administration, alumni and community.
