Job summary

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Baltimore is seeking a Director of Arts Education to lead our arts education portfolio for children, teens and families. SUMMARY:

The Director of Arts Education is a creative arts administrator and educator responsible for developing, managing, and growing arts education experiences primarily serving children, teens, and families.

Working collaboratively with the Center for Arts & Culture and Gordon Center teams, the Director of Arts Education provides creative vision and operational leadership for a diverse portfolio of programs including children’s theater, dance, summer arts programming, and additional arts experiences based on community needs, organizational priorities, and the Director’s areas of expertise.

This position creates high-quality arts experiences that reflect the vibrant and diverse communities we serve while providing opportunities for creativity, learning, connection, and meaningful engagement in a safe and welcoming environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Provide creative and strategic leadership for the JCC’s year-round and summer arts education portfolio.
• Lead the JCC’s Children’s Theater Production Company programming and oversee dance programming for children and adults.
• Develop new classes, workshops, performances, camps, and arts experiences based on community interests, participation trends, and opportunities for growth.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, artists, educators, arts organizations, businesses, and community partners to cultivate partnerships and artistic resources that enhance programming and broaden participation in JCC arts and cultural experiences.
• Collaborate across JCC departments and with community partners to develop meaningful arts experiences and support organizational and community-wide events.
• Assist with curating and coordinating rotating exhibits in the Gordon Center gallery.
• Provide instruction and direct program leadership when appropriate.
• Evaluate programs and identify opportunities to strengthen quality, participation, accessibility, and impact.
• Represent the Center for Arts & Culture and JCC with professionalism in interactions with participants, families, artists, partners, and the broader community.
• Participate in relevant professional development to remain current in arts education, program management, supervision, and community engagement.

Program Management

• Manage arts education programs from initial concept and planning through implementation and evaluation.
• Develop and manage program budgets, calendars, schedules, enrollment goals, and operational plans.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, schedule, supervise, and support teaching artists, instructors, counselors, specialists, and other year-round and summer program staff.
• Oversee registration, enrollment, room reservations, supplies, payroll coordination, field trips, special programs, and other program logistics.
• Build strong relationships with participants and families, maintain consistent communication, and lead efforts to support recruitment and retention.
• Collaborate with marketing staff on program promotion, recruitment, registration, and outreach.
• Maintain accurate program, financial, enrollment, scheduling, and participant records.
• Coordinate performances, showcases, recitals, exhibits, and other culminating experiences.
• Participate in staff and camp meetings, orientations, trainings, parent programs, debriefings, and other planning meetings as appropriate.
• Ensure programs follow JCC safety procedures and are delivered in a safe, organized, welcoming, and high-quality manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other appropriate management.

• A college degree is required. Experience in arts education, arts administration, program management, theater, dance, visual arts, music, camp, or related fields is strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Center for Arts & Culture is a dynamic, creative, and often fast-paced environment. The Director of Arts Education regularly interacts with children, families, teaching artists, JCC staff, community organizations, vendors, artists, and outside partners.

The position includes a combination of administrative work, classroom and rehearsal environments, performances, community events, and summer camp programming.

The position requires flexibility in scheduling. Summer responsibilities generally take place Monday through Friday, with orientations, meetings, and special programs as required. Year-round responsibilities may include daytime, evening, and weekend hours based on classes, rehearsals, performances, and events.

• Sit, stand, and walk for varying periods of time.
• Use a computer and other standard office equipment.
• Reach with hands and arms and occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Assist with moving props, scenery, equipment, art supplies, and other program materials.
• Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary (or Salary Range): $55,000-$60,000
