Position Overview:
The Director of Aquatics at WorldSprings manages the aquatics functions of the business, including the operation and maintenance of more than 40 swimming pools and spas, and the associated mechanical, electrical and control systems. They are responsible for maintaining water quality and composition for the specialized mineral pools for health department compliance and to ensure an excellent guest experience. They perform functional management duties for their reports with the assistance of supervisor(s) and are responsible for directing the shift activities of the pool technician and lifeguard team members. This person also manages vendors and subcontractors for the aquatics department. They develop and administer safety, preventative maintenance, and spare parts programs related to aquatics.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
· Leadership and Communication:
·Model and hold staff accountable to company policies.
·Make recommendations to improve the performance of the department and company.
·Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all employees, contractors, inspectors and vendors.
·Interview, hire, train, and schedule departmental employees.
·Reward and recognize. Provide timely, constructive coaching for improvement. Utilize corrective action plans and terminate as needed.
·Conduct ongoing job training of personnel, including internal and external certifications and regular safety training.
·Employee development through goal setting, accountability, discipline, coaching, and annual reviews.
·Develop, implement, and maintain departmental processes, policies, and procedures.
·Develop and maintain employee training and documentation.
·Responsible for scheduling and payroll of the department.
·Record keeping for water quality and lifeguard training for health department compliance.
·Record keeping of all critical maintenance records.
·Maintain safety records for OSHA compliance.
·Assist in the preparation of the annual budget by forecasting, budgeting, developing action plans, measuring and analyzing results and minimizing the impact of variances in your department.
·Review and approve invoices and process receipts on a timely basis.
·Actively seek cost saving measures and make prudent purchases.
·Manage 3rd party service agreements.
Operations:
·Overall responsibility for daily operations of the aquatics department.
·Implement and maintain a comprehensive audit system for the property with a keen eye for presentation.
·Oversee aquatics operations to achieve stated objectives for presentation, safety, and guest services.
·Ensure required daily, monthly, and annual inspections and preventative maintenance tasks are completed.
·Participate in the software implementation for managing maintenance activities, including work orders, preventative maintenance, inspections, and standard operating procedures.
Safety:
·Comply with regulatory agencies such as EPA, OSHA, UBS/IBC, County/City Health Department, etc.
·Maintain and organize all permits and licenses related to facilities.
·Ensure all projects with employees and/or contractors are done in a safe manner to minimize any risk or injury.
Requirements:
·Basic first aid, exposure control, and advanced safety courses required upon hire
·Possess and maintain a professional appearance and positive demeanor.
·Some travel required for retreats and training and development.
·Available to work full time including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
·Expected to be on call and available to assist in emergency situations.
·Complete other tasks or duties as they are assigned by your direct report.
Qualifications:
·Certified Pool & Spa (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification preferred.
·5+ years of work experience with managing multiple teams of technical employees through projects.
·2+ years of senior management experience.
·Knowledge of best practices for safety and OSHA requirement.
·Excellent leadership and team building skills with ability to organize and prioritize
·Administrative organizational skills, attention to detail & project completion.
·Critical thinking skills to work through various issues that arise.
·Ability to remain calm in emergency and serious situations and to act in a productive manner.
·Ability to work in a fast paced, stressful environment
·Courtesy, alertness, a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly are necessary.
·Ability to read, comprehend, generate and modify procedural documents.
Skills:
·Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
·Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
·Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
·Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
·Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
·Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
·Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
·Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
·Records maintenance skills.
·Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
·Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
·Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
·Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths.
·Ability to recruit, train, and certify student lifeguards and others.
·Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility.
·Skills in program planning and development.
·Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.
Physical Demands:
·Able to lift to 75 pounds.
·Able to bend, stretch, and twist.
·Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
·Able to climb multiple flights of stairs daily, climb ladders, and walk frequently.
·Working with chemicals, tools, and powered machinery.
