Job summary

Amazon in California is seeking a Director, Applied Science to lead the science vision for a next-generation conversational AI platform. You will own the end-to-end science roadmap for a multi-agent architecture powered by LLMs, RL, and post-training optimization to deliver a highly capable AI shopping assistant.

The ideal candidate will drive production AI at scale, mentoring senior leaders and collaborating with senior executives to align investments with long-term conversational commerce

Qualifications

• MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Operations Research, or related field.
• 12+ years in applied machine learning and AI.
• 10+ years of people management, including leaders of leaders.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the science strategy for Alexa for Shopping conversational AI platform.
• Lead a large, multidisciplinary organization of Applied Scientists, Research Scientists, and ML Engineers.
• Architect and scale multi-agent systems.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and senior leadership to align AI investments with goals.
• Establish scientific best practices across experimentation, evaluation, model iteration, and production deployment.
• Mentor and develop senior technical leaders; foster innovation and operational excellence.
