Pin Placements manages two semi-private golf properties in the Greater Tampa Bay area. We seek a Director of Agronomy to lead agronomic operations across both courses, developing teams, setting standards, and driving a long-term improvement plan.
The role oversees budgeting, staffing, irrigation upgrades, and equipment planning, with an emphasis on elevating conditions and the overall golf experience.
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced golf course agronomy leader to oversee two semi-private golf courses north of Tampa, Florida.
This is an opportunity to take the lead during an important period of reinvestment and improvement across both properties. After navigating challenges in prior years, the courses are back on track, ownership is investing in the operation, and the next Director of Agronomy will have the opportunity to help shape the next chapter.
We are looking for a hands-on, experienced leader who can develop strong teams, establish consistent agronomic standards across two properties, and build a long-term plan for continued improvement in course conditions and the overall golf experience.
The Director of Agronomy will have responsibility for golf course maintenance and agronomic operations across two semi-private facilities, with dedicated maintenance crews at each property.
This position will provide leadership and direction to both teams while establishing consistent expectations for course conditioning, staffing, budgeting, equipment, irrigation, cultural practices, and day-to-day maintenance.
The properties are entering a period of significant reinvestment. A new irrigation system is currently being planned, with installation targeted to begin as early as December. The incoming Director will have the opportunity to participate in the process and ultimately oversee and optimize a new, modern irrigation system.
Ownership is also preparing to enter a new golf course equipment lease program, giving the Director an opportunity to help evaluate equipment needs and build a fleet that supports the long-term maintenance objectives of both courses.
For the right agronomy professional, this is an opportunity to "catch us on the way up" and have a meaningful impact on two golf courses with significant potential.
Provide overall agronomic leadership for two semi-private golf courses.
Lead, develop, and hold accountable the maintenance teams at each facility.
Establish consistent agronomic and course-conditioning standards across both properties.
Develop and execute short- and long-term agronomic plans designed to continually improve turf quality, playability, presentation, and overall course conditions.
Oversee daily golf course maintenance operations, including mowing practices, fertility, plant protectants, irrigation, bunker maintenance, cultural practices, and course setup.
Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for both golf course maintenance operations.
Recruit, train, develop, and retain high-performing team members while creating a positive and accountable culture.
Participate in the planning and implementation of the anticipated new irrigation system and oversee its effective operation following installation.
Evaluate fleet requirements and participate in the development and implementation of the planned equipment lease program.
Develop preventative maintenance, irrigation, fertility, chemical, and cultural-practice programs appropriate for each property.
Manage vendors and outside contractors and maintain strong relationships with industry partners.
Maintain compliance with applicable environmental, safety, pesticide, and regulatory requirements.
Communicate regularly with ownership and club leadership regarding course conditions, agronomic priorities, budgets, capital needs, projects, and long-term strategy.
Balance agronomic best practices with the operational and financial objectives of the properties.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Agronomy with a demonstrated record of improving golf course conditions and successfully leading people.
This opportunity is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys building and improving an operation rather than simply maintaining the status quo. The Director should be comfortable establishing structure, developing teams, prioritizing capital needs, and creating a clear agronomic vision for two properties.
Proven success as a Golf Course Superintendent, Director of Agronomy, or similar senior golf course maintenance leader.
Experience managing and developing golf course maintenance teams.
Strong knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management and Florida growing conditions.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute agronomic plans and operating budgets.
Experience with irrigation systems, including renovation, installation, or major irrigation projects, strongly preferred.
Experience evaluating and managing golf course equipment fleets and capital replacement plans.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage operations across multiple properties.
GCSAA membership and active participation in the golf course management profession preferred.
Appropriate Florida pesticide licensing or ability to obtain required licensing.
This is not simply an opportunity to inherit an established maintenance program. It is an opportunity to help build one.
With two golf courses positioned for continued improvement, planned investment in irrigation, an upcoming equipment fleet program, and ownership committed to moving the properties forward, the incoming Director of Agronomy will have the resources and opportunity to make a visible impact.
We are looking for someone who sees the potential in that challenge and wants to play a major role in what these properties become next.
